PERFOMANCE OF MILL

ONTROLLABLE FACTORS:
1.FINENESS OF MILLED PRODUCT:
The mill and classifier will be designed to produce this
fineness. Any increase in fineness will waste mill power.
By varying the following parameters within certain
range the fineness of coal at mill outlet can be
controlled.
Adjusting the spring pressure of the roller assembly
over the bowl ring.
Setting the classifier vanes at optimum position which
restricts the exit of coarser particles from the mill.

THE RATIO OF COAL AIR MIXTURE:

The quantity of the primary air should be designed such that
the velocity of air and coal mixture is within the required level.
If the velocity of the air is high then the coarse particles will
also be carried to the burner. On other hand if the velocity is
low in the mill the transportation of the coal dust will be
suffered and the mill choking will be very frequent hence
affect the milling performance.
minimum velocity of 22m/sec has to be maintained in the
mill to avoid the settling of coal dust in the mill.

3. MILL AIR FLOW:

Mill should be operated at design airflow at all loads.
Operating at higher airflow will cause excess wear inside the
mill and upset the performance of classifier etc.
Mill operating at lower air flow may result in coal rejects,
coal settlement and mill choking, etc. the required airflow is
controlled by simultaneous operations of both Hot air
Dampers (HAD) and Cold Air Dampers (CAD).

4. MILL OUTLET TEMPERATURE:

The hot air admitted to the mill along with the coal
mixes with the coal, dries the coal and leaves the mill
with the pulverized coal. The mixture leaving the mill
has to be maintained at a suitable temperature around
80C.
Any increase in mill outlet temperature leads to de volatilization of coal in fuel pipes, this causes fuel pipe
choking and fire in fuel pipes.
But operating mill below 67oC is not recommended
because the coal cannot be dried and mill choking
may affect the performance of the mill.

5.SIZE OF THE COAL TO THE MILL:

Larger the size of the coal fed to the mill amount of
work is increased to get fine coal of required
fineness.
Generally the mills will be supplied by a uniform size
of raw coal prepared in the coal crusher.
