Family History
Family originated from what we have been taught to
believe through religion beliefs.
Family has a role in society because we are raised based
on social and cultural aspects.
The common type of family is the nuclear family which
consists of both parents and the children.

How family is perceived as a social institution

and importance
If it wasnt for the existence of our families we wouldnt
be where we are today.
Our family is responsible for our social and economic
stability.
Because of our families we have access to other important
social institutions such as education.

Divorced Parents and Children

Divorce has a huge impact mainly with children not as
much with adults.
In the article, The Children of Divorce, by Stanton,
Glenn T., he discusses psychologist, Judith Wallerstein,
study of impact of divorce on children for twelve month
time period. She found that children had issues with
sleep, school, and behavioral problems.

Negative Effect on Children

In the article, Deconstructing the Impact of Divorce on
Children, by Rappaport, Sol R., he mainly points out that
as the conflict between the parents get more intense, the
more issues the child will face, mainly with behavioral
problems and possibly leading to depression.
We are known that a family consists of a father, mother,
and the children. If the children dont have both parents it
will affect their emotional state being, bonding with the
parents, and their sense of belonging in the family.

Same-Sex Parents and Children

In the article, Children in Same-Sex Marriages, by
Solodnikov, V.V, and Chkanikova, A.M., discusses the study
by I.S. Kon, that children who are raised in same-sex
relationships are no different than how children are raised
with heterosexual parents.
The status of the relationship doesnt define how the
children are better off raised. As long as the child as two
parents raising him/her there will always be the same
love, bonding, and sense of belonging.

Positive Impact on Children

In the article, The (Same-Sex) Family Next Door, by
Ondreko, Patty, she talks about same-sex parenting being
more accepted. She goes on to say that they still provide
the same support and well being of the children which is
what simply means they are family.
Children raised with same-sex parents are reported to
have good academic performance and fewer behavioral
problems

Working Parents and Children

In the article, Two incomes, no time: The struggle is real
for many working parents, survey finds, Jo Fisher,
Marla, she discusses the struggles of both parents
working and balancing family life.
Back in the old days, the father was the one who would go
work and bring home the money while the mother looks
after the children. Today the roles of parents have
changed. We dont see one parent staying home as much
because both parents are required to work to be
financially stable and provide for the family.

Negative Effect on Children

Both parents working has an effect on the children
because it is affecting the time spent as a family.
When both parents work, children feel as if they are not
important or have the feeling that they are being left out.
Not enough family time gives more chances of less
bonding between the parents and the children

Perspective of Family from

Functionalism View
According to Witts Functionalism theory, family is one of
the most influential institutions that exists. We are
associated with other important social institutions such as
religion, education, government, and the economy. Based
on this theory, the role of family and its members are to
mainly reproduce, teach the accepted moral standards of
society, and provide for.

Perspective of Family From the

Conflict Theory View
According to the Conflict theory, conflict for wealth and
power is handled in a way that one must compete against
another.
Conflict theory mainly benefits the men mostly because
they have the most power in the family.
Men are known to be the fighters for the bread while
women are housewives.

Conclusion
Family is the best support we can ever have. They are our
family for a reason because they are a big influence to our
lives and the way we comply with societys standards.
