Digestive System of

Porcines

Introduction
The digestive system of the pig is fundamentally similar to

all other monogastric mammals, but the evolutionary

development in size and digestive capacity reflects greatly
their habitual diet.

shape.

MANDIBULAR GLAND:
-Reddish in color and is
much smaller than the
parotid gland. It is more or
less globular in shape.
SUBLINGUAL GLANDS:
-Monostomatic
has only one excretory
duct, the major sublingual
duct

-Polystomatic
consists of a loose chain of
small lobules, each of which
secretes through its own
short minor sublingual
duct.

The Alimentary Canal

The alimentary canal consists of the esophagus, stomach,

small intestine, large intestine, and the anal canal. Two

large glands, the liver and the pancreas, are associated
with the alimentary canal and release their secretions
into its lumen

The stomach is a saclike

The Glandular Cardia is very
large and occupies approx.
one third of the stomach
