 Pompeu Fabra i Poch, (Barcelona 1868 - Prada de Conflent 1948) was a Catalan grammarian, the
main author of the normative reform of contemporary Catalan language.
Trained as a chemical engineer, from a quite young age he dedicated himself to the study of the
Catalan language. Through a group called , he promoted a campaign to reform Catalan
orthography (1890–91), publishing in (1904) with and a Tractat d'ortografia catalana. He
participated actively in the (1906). In 1912 he published his Gramática de la lengua catalana (in
Spanish).
Fabra moved from Bilbao to Barcelona in 1911, to become a professor (catedràtic) of Catalan — a
position created by the diputació (local government) of Barcelona — and a member of the
department of philology at the newly created Institut d'Estudis Catalans, of which he later became
president.
The Institute published the Normes ortogràfiques in 1913, the Diccionari ortogràfic in 1917, and its
official Gramàtica catalana in 1918.
In 1918, Fabra edited the textbook Curs mitjà de gramàtica catalana, published by l'Associació
Protectora de l'Ensenyança Catalana (1918).
His "Converses filològiques", first published in the newspaper "", were later collected as "Popular
Barcino". Probably his most famous work was the (1932), the first edition of which later became
the Institute's official dictionary.
In 1932, owing to his scientific prestige, he was unanimously named a professor (catedràtic) of the
Republican Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (not to be confused with the later Universitat
Autònoma de Barcelona created in the 1960s during the Francoist régime).
Imprisoned in 1934 (during the Second Spanish Republic), he later (1939) went into exile in France,
where he was to live in Paris, Montpellier and Prada de Conflent. He presided over the literary
competition of Jocs Florals in Montpellier in 1946. Every year, his tomb in the Cuixà monastery
near Prada, is visited by thousands of Catalans.

• 1904: Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí was born on 11th May in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. he was a painter,
sculptor, graphic artist and designer. He joined the Surrealists in 1929 and his talent for self-publicity
rapidly made him the most famous representative of the movement.

• In 1922, Dalí stayed at the famous Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid to begin his studies at the
Academy.

• Dalí had two brothers.

• 1917: He started to visit the School of Art. First paintings

• Diakonowa Elena Ivanovna was a Russian immigrant married Dalí in 1934 in a civil ceremony, and again
he did so in the Catholic rite in 1958 at San Fernando de Bellas Artes.
• He had a daughter.

• 1929: Gala went into his life. He joined the group of Surrealists this year.

• 1989: Dalí died on 23rd January.

• They say that Salvador Dalí is the reincarnation of his brother.

• He is called Jaume I. He was famous because he was
the count of Barcelona and King of Aragon (1213-76)
Valencia (1213-76) and Mallorca (1229-76). He was
born on 2nd February 1208 in Alcira ( Valencia). He
was an important heir. His first wife was Leonor and
had a son. His name`s Alfonso. He also married
Amicia.
Jaume I himself died at 63 in València.
The reign of Jaume I marks the rebirth of a regional
consciousness in the various realms of the crown of
Aragon.

• He was born on 25th July , 1852 in Reus, near
Tarragona.
• He graduated in 1878, obtaining his degree in

• Josep Guardiola is known as Pep Guardiola. He was a great player,
midfielder for FC Barcelona and now is a great coach for the first
team.
Guardiola was born on 18th January 1971 in Santpedor.
Guardiola got famous thanks to triumphs with Barcelona to get the
Spanish Cup, the league, the champions, the Super Cup of Spain,
the European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup in his first years
as a coach.
• His family moved to Barcelona to help his goal Guardiola liked
playing the violin. He went to violin classes and composed some
songs.
• Guardiola is married to Cristina Serra, whom he met in the clothing
store of his parents at 18 years old, now they have three children
named Marius, Maria and Valentina.
Thanks to songs he could make money but had the help of his
parents.
• I think that he is a great coach and a great person. He is educated,
calm, thinks things through before finding very effective immediate
solutions.
Guardiola has been able to take the football club Barcelona to the
Olympus of football.

• His name is Ferran Adrià Acosta, he is famous because he
´s a Spanish cook.
• He was born in Hospitalet de Llobregat (Spain), on
14thMay 1962.
• He studied in the school Casal dels Àngels of Hospitalet de
Llobregat and the School of San Isidro of Barcelona.
• During these years he lived with his family, Ginés Adriá,
Josefa Acosta and his brother Albert Adriá.
• In 1980 he left the studies and got a work in the small
Hotel Playafels at Castelldefels as a dishwasher , where he
began in the classic kitchen.
• He is married to Isabel Perez.
• He does not have any children.
• Ferran Adrià is a famous and prestigious Catalan cook
considered one of the best chefs of the world. He´s a
chef and co-owner of the restaurant The Bulli, placed in
Cove Montjoi, in Roses (in Girona), which has received the
maximum gastronomic distinctions.
• During his path he has received many prizes, recognitions
and distinctions.
• I think that he is a great cook who started by being
employed as a dishwasher at a small Hotel and
everything what it has obtained has been thanks to
his effort and talent.

He was a Catalan cellist and conductor.He performed

• Ramon Llull was a writer, Kabbalist, science writer, missionary, theologian, Franciscan monk,
alchemist, among other things, leaving a huge work, varied and high quality written in Catalan, Arabic
and Latin. Most of it has not yet been translated into Castilian.
He was born in Palma, the capital of the new Kingdom of Mallorca. We do not know the exact date of
his birth, but had to be between at the end of 1232 and early 1233. Ramon was the son of wealthy
parents, probably from the Catalan nobility. In 1257 he married the young White Picayune, who bore
him two sons, Dominic and Magdalena ..
     During this períod he wrote skits and songs which Llull's work boils down to love songs, ribald and
fun, suitable to be sung by the minstrels.
By 1267, at age 30, Ramon's life underwent a momentous shift: he had a series of visions of Christ
crucified, to five visions in five consecutive nights. The deep impression that these visions caused him
to sell their property and assets to advance the legacy of his wife and children, who left because they
felt called by God to preach on the roads.
His nine-year period of theological and moral training lasted until 1275: Palma de Mallorca met and
bought a Muslim slave who was served as a teacher to learn Arabic to perfection.
He retired to a cave on Mount Randa (Mallorca) where he gave himself to meditation and
contemplation, and finally entered (even lay) a monastery of the Royal where the monks taught Latin,
grammar and philosophy, both Islamic as a Catholic. The combination of linguistic and theological
studies for the missionaries could evangelize the faithful of other religions and languages Hispanus
loved Pope Petrus (John XXI), who publicly congratulated Ramon in 1276.
In 1286 Ramon Llull professor received his bachelor's degree (magister) at the University of Paris. A
year later he traveled to Rome to submit to priests and dignitaries its plans to reform the Church, but,
again, nobody listens, because he was seeking financing for that ambitious crusade to convert all
infidels from the Holy Land .
The most active (three major books and many letters and travel to over thirty years) of the treatise of
this current reform was Ramon Llull, which prepared the draft Bellator Rex unification of the military
orders under a prince
In 1307, Ramon Llull traveled to North Africa to continue to preach.

• Charlie Rivel is the stage name from
Josep Andreu i Lasserre, a catalan clown
who was born in Cubelles on 23rd April
1896 and died in Sant Pere de Ribes on
26th July 1983. He was one of the most
famous clowns of history of the circus.
His father was Pere Andreu (Spanish)
and his mother Marie-louise Lasserre
(French). His artist stage name was a
tribute to Charlie Chaplin. One long red
shirt, a chair and a guitar were the
attributes with Charlie Rivel was
considered the best clown in the world.
• I was fortunate to meet him and only
with the mimics and wolf howl, he was
able to convey happiness to a child and
an adult.
