3 Human Digestive System

Digestion is the process of breaking down


large food molecules into smaller molecules
that can be more readily absorbed by body.
In human being, digestion can be divided
into:

Physical digestion
Food is broken down by the chewing action teeth in
the mouth.

Chemical digestion
Enzymes break up complex food into digestable
molecules
(Enzymes are proteins that catalysts and speed up the
digestion process.)

Glucose

from carbohydrates
Amino acids from proteins
Fatty acids & glycerol from
fats
Cellulose is not digested in human because
we do not have the enzyme cellulase.
