COATINGS

WELD:It can be defined as a union

between pieces of metal at faces
rendered plastic or liquid by heat, or
pressure, or both, with or without
the use of filler metal.
WELDABILITY:It can be defined as the capacity of a
metal to be welded under the
fabrication conditions imposed into
a specific, suitably designed
structure, and to perform
satisfactorily in the intended
service.

TYPES OF WELDED
COATINGS

There are many types of coatings

and some of them are welded.
For example, tern plate steel,
which is tin-lead coated, and
aluminized steel. Steels coated
with tin, cadmium, copper, and
lead may be soldered.
Coated welding's is one of the
basic method of galvanizing
steel.
The coatings tend to deteriorate
the spot welding electrodes by
rapid wear or by applying the
electrode itself.

APPLICATIONS : It

remove impurities from the

molten metal.
In slag formation which can
be easily removed from the
weld.
To protect the weld deposit
from air contamination.
To add alloy materials in the
weldment.
To add an additional filler
metal to the weldment.

TYPICALLY USAGE OF
WELDED COATINGS:Calcium fluoride to provide
shielding gas to protect the arc,
adjust the basicity of the slag,
and provide fluidity and
solubility of the metal oxides.
Iron powder to increase the
productivity by providing extra
metal to be deposited in the
weld.
Metal carbonates to adjust the
basicity of the slag and to
provide a reducing atmosphere
