WHAT IS DISASTER??
Adisasteris a serious disruption of the
functioning of a community or a society
involving widespread human, material,
economic or environmental losses and
impacts, which exceeds the ability of the
affected community or society to cope using
its own resources.

Manmade disaster
Natural disaster

NATURAL DISASTER.
a natural event such as a flood, earthquake, or
hurricane that causes great damage or loss of life.
"the number of people suffering food crises as a
result of natural disasters has tripled in the last
thirty years.

VOLCANIC ERUPTION

Avolcanic eruptionoccurs when


hot materials are thrown out of
avolcano.Lava,rocks,dust,ash
and gas compounds are some of
the materials.

CYCLONES

pressure area is called a
cyclone.

EARTHQUAKES
Anearthquake(or quakes,
tremors) is shaking caused by
suddenmovements ofrocksin
theEarth's crust. They can be
extremely violent.

TSUNAMIS

Atsunamiis a series of
waves in a water body caused
by the displacement of a
large volume of water,
generally in an ocean or a
large lake.

MAN-MADE DISASTERS
Disasters also can be caused by humans. Hazardous materials
emergencies include chemical spills and groundwater contamination.
Workplace fires are more common and can cause significant property
damage and loss of life. Communities are also vulnerable to threats
posed by extremist groups who use violence against both people and
property

FIRE ACCIDENTS
Fire is a very good servant, but, a very bad master. As
long as fire is under our control, it serves a lot of useful
purposes for us, but, once it goes out of our control, it
can create a lot of destruction.

ROAD ACCIDENTS
Atraffic collision, also known as amotor vehicle
collision(MVC) among others, occurs when avehicle
collideswith another vehicle, pedestrian, animal,
road debris, or other stationary obstruction, such as a
tree orutility pole. Traffic collisions may result in
injury, death and property damage.

NUCLEAR BLAST
Anuclear explosionis anexplosionthat occurs as
a result of the rapid release of energy from a highspeednuclear reaction.

TERRORISM
Terrorism, in its broadest sense, is defined as the use or
threatened use ofviolence(terror) in order to achieve a
political, religious, or ideological aim. It is classified as
fourth-generation warfareand as aviolent crime.
