OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Concrete is the most widely used man made construction material in the world.
The study claims that by using plastic bottle caps as a partial substitution with
various percentage of coarse aggregates increases the strength of the concrete.
Quantities of plastic wastes has increased rapidly throughout this decade due to
its beneficial properties of low density, lightweight and strength. Other important
factors such as low cost and friendly design were the reason polymer product
becomes an inseparable part of our lives.

Here in Philippines, most of our plastic wastes were dispose or abandon and not
recycle. In other words, inside the municipal waste stream, the plastic wastes
management options is only landfill. This had caused a very serious environmental
threat to the environment due to the high volume of municipal solid wastes.
Plastic bottle cap which is made of polypropylene (PP) is one of the plastic
product also known as low modulus synthesis fibers that are effectual in
controlling shrinkage cracking (Foti, 2011).

PLASTIC BOTTLE CAPS (PBC)

Plastic is a nonbiodegradable material
and researchers found
that the material can
remain on earth for
4500 years without
degradation.

Plastic characteristics that make it a good material in concrete

production and other building activities include:

Not

easily biodegradable/ durability

Versatility
Lightness
Hardness

Objective of the study

Our

main objective is to investigate the

properties of concrete when waste plastic
bottle caps used as partial replacement of
coarse aggregates in concrete.

Objective of the study

To study how plastic bottle caps can add strength in concrete.

To reduce the volume of plastic waste in our community.

To improve the strength of concrete.

To lessen the construction and material cost.

To minimize the pollution in our environment.

Objective of the study

To study how plastic bottle caps can add safety factor in the structure.

To reduce greenhouse gasses.

To investigate the structural behaviour of such replaced concrete components

To determine the percentage of plastic fibre which gives more strength when
compared to control concrete

Objective of the study

To reduce the negative impact on environment

To determine the suitability of polypropylene cap as partial coarse aggregate

replacement in concrete

To compare the mechanical properties of polypropylene cap concrete with

control concrete.

To study the effect of hole in polypropylene cap as partial coarse aggregate

replacement.

To study the material (concrete constituents and plastic particles)

characteristics

Thats all!!
