Roots back to the late 19th and early

20th centuries in America.

Coleman R. Griffith is the founder of

Sports Psychology.

Began studying sports psychology in

1918.

Taught a course on Psychology and

Athletics.

In 1925, the first-ever research lab on

athletic performance was opened at
the University of Illinois.

Published two textbooks

Psychology of Coaching in 1926

Psychology and Athletics in 1928

Hired by the Chicago Cubs in 1938.
