Fandango Jarocho or very

known as Son Jarochois a
regional folk musical styleof
Mexican Son from Veracruz. It
evolved over the last two and a
half centuries along the coastal
portions of southern
Tamaulipasstate and Veracruz
state, hence the term jarocho, a
colloquial term for people or
things from the port city of
Veracruz.

It represents a fusion of
indigenous (primarily Huastecan),
Spanish, and African musical
elements, reflecting the
population which evolved in the
region from Spanish colonial
times. Lyrics include humorous
verses and subjects such as love,
nature, sailors, and cattle
breeding that still reflect life in
colonial and 19th century Mexico.

It is usually performed by an
ensemble of musicians and
instruments which collectively are
termed a conjunto jarocho.Son
Jarocho is often played only on
jaranas and sung in a style in which
several singers exchange improvised
verses called dcimas, often with
humorous or offensive content.

The instruments associated with Son

Jarocho are the jarana jarocha and
requinto jarocho, some small guitarlike used to provide a harmonic base;
the arpa jarocha, the leona, a type of
acoustic bass guitar, and sometimes a
minor complement of percussion
instruments such as the pandero, the
quijada (an instrument made of a
donkey or horse jawbone or the giro.

The verses in the Son Jarocho have

the function to communicate and
socialize past events , " fantastic "
events lived in communities and
that through it are commemorated
in the party. As an example we have
the woodpecker son , which was a
man who walked down the hill and
where each tree (a woman) was
marked by the work of his peak , he
was also adviser of the farmers and
helped in planting and several
people mentioned or identified as a
"wise and brave" character:

Pajarito carpintero
Dame tu filosofa,
Porque quiero con esmero
Enfrentar la tirana
Que gobierna al mundo entero
El pjaro carpintero
Siempre vive apasionado
Y le advirti al jilguero
Hombre vive con cuidado
Que siendo igual carbonero
Una mujer me ha tiznado
El rayo con el maz
Tiraban piedras a un cerro,
Perdi el rayo en un desliz
Y el maz llego primero
Le ayud la codorniz y el pjaro carpintero
