Intrroduction
Anelectrostatic precipitator(ESP)
is a highly efficient filtration device
that removes fine particles, like dust
and smoke, from a flowing gas using
the force of an inducedelectrostatic
charge.
It is used in Thermal Plants, Domestic
Air filters, Industrial plants or purifiers.

Introduction (contd.)
Environment protection has become a
crucial problem and the authorities are
requested to set increasingly more
stringent limits , one of which is the
emissions from the industrial plants of
solid particulate and other gaseous
pollutants.
ESP can aptly remove the dust particles
alone, giving out pure gas out which can
be even use for other purposes.

OBJECTIVE
To implement an electrostatic filter
that is used to filter dust particles
from Smoke that is given out by
industries or vehicles(any other dust
out letting source) and find the
efficiency of the ESP

METHODOLOGY
High voltage source is supplied to
electrodes, when smoke with dust particle
is passed through electrodes. Dust particle
which is made up of ions is simultaneously
attracted by both the electrodes and is
collected in the collector.
The amount of dust in both outlet and
inlet is calculated and compared then
efficiency of ESP is determined

ESP MODEL USED IN

INDUSTRIES

PROJECT TASK
A module of electrostatic precipitator
is to be made which is to filter the
dust particle coming out from the
smoke source.
Two Electrodes: Cathode& Anode
Suitable materials like Aluminium
foil are to be used to make cathode &
anode similar to plate.

Sectional View of ESP

Project Task (contd.)

HV (ac or dc) is applied across the electrodes,
The process is divided Particle charging,
Transport, Collection.
Particle charging- ions in the gas are charged
and separated into ions
Transport- these are attracted by the opposite
electrode
Collection these are collected in the collector
electrode and collected in ash collector.

Project task (contd.)

The amount of dust in the inlet and
outlet of gas is measured and
efficiency of ESP is determine.
Factors affecting efficiency of ESP:
Dust resistivity
Channel Width
Channel medium
Flow rate of gas
