THREE KINDS OF
STANDARDS
There are three kinds of standards, namely:
Process standards: which specify how the
product should be produced
Product standards: which specify the features
and characteristics of the food product
Information standards
These are concerned with labelling and other
communications that go with the product. Labelling
and packaging standards add value to food by
ensuring that the food is protected, is well presented
and that the right information on the food product is
passed to the consumer. Labels also add value by
providing ease of retailing and traceability through bar
coding
