USU
The USU (Universal Switching Unit) is a key unit in the Cloud BB solution to implement interconnection between multiple baseband units (BBUs). In the
Cloud BB solution, multiple BBUs are interconnected through the USU to coordinate the services of cells carried on different BBUs, thereby improving the
wireless network performance.
USU3900 has been introduced before SRAN10.0.
USU3910 has been introduced in SRAN10.0.
8.1
Cloud BB
Cloud BB is a BBU networking solution in which the baseband resources of multiple sites are centrally deployed to reduce the operator's TCO or are
interconnected to achieve inter-site coordination.
In SRAN10.0, the following Cloud BB networking topologies are available:
Centralized Cloud BB (Ideal Backhaul): BBUs are located together and interconnected using switching units and fiber optic cables.
Shortened to: Centralized Cloud BB
Distributed Cloud BB (Ideal Backhaul): BBUs are not located together but interconnected using switching units and fiber optic cables.
Shortened to: Distributed Cloud BB
Coordination over Relaxed Backhaul: BBUs are interconnected using the legacy backhaul to carry coordination data.
Shortened to: Relaxed Backhaul

A base station is a collection of NEs that are deployed at the same place and are tightly coupled. The OSS can provide unified O&M (such as upgrade and
view) on parts of such a base station. In the case of separate-MPT and hybrid-MPT, NEs in the collection have the same Deployment ID (DID). If the number
of modes in a base station is greater than one, this base station is called a multimode base station.
Separate-MPT and Co-MPT base stations are collectively called Multimode Base Station.
base station
8.0
Co-MPT base station is multimode base station, even if only one mode deployed in Co-MPT base station.
Network Element
(NE)
A logical base station that can be independently managed by OSS (for example, BTS3900 WCDMA, BTS3900 LTE, BTS3900 GSM, BTS3900). One or more
modes can be deployed on an NE.
8.0
GBTS
A conventional GSM base station that is managed as a component of a base station controller. This operation maintenance is called LegacyOM in
SRAN10.0. The main control board must be a GTMUa or GTMUb board.
7.0
eGBTS
A GSM base station that is directly managed by an EMS. In SRAN10.0, the main control board must be a UMDU, UMPT or GTMUb board.
8.0
The type of GBTS OM, that is managed as a component of a base station controller.
SingleOM
Unified operation and maintenance experience for multiple modes in a multimode base station is called SingleOM.
1. OM experience includes topology display, device panel, upgrade, reconstruction, site deployment, alarm browsing, tracing, configuration, web LMT, MML
commands, and northbound interfaces.
2. NE types include BTS3900, BTS3900 WCDMA, and BTS3900 LTE.
2014/2/15: According to the meeting minutes of IPMT discussion about the relationship between co-MPT and SingleOM on 2014-01-24, publicity about co-MPT
should be stopped. We should promote only co-MPT to customers and clarify that SingleOM and legacy OM differ slightly.

In a base station where SingleOM is to be applied and a WMPT is used, the WMPT no longer works as a main control board. The WMPT board provides only the inventory management function. WMPT
evolved is available from SRAN8.1.
8.1
Separate-MPT
In an MBTS with separate-MPT, different modes use different main control boards and different O&M channels.
8.0
Co-MPT
In an MBTS with co-MPT, different modes share one main control board and one O&M channel.
8.0
Hybrid-MPT
One kind of Separate-MPT, two modes share one main control board while the other mode uses an independent main control board. This term is not visible to customers
8.0

Partial sharing: Each mode has an independent transmission unit, including the
transmission module on the main control board and the UTRP board for each mode.
The transmission unit of the primary mode (assume that the LTE mode is the primary
mode in this scenario) provides the co-transmission function, and the modules
highlighted in green are shared by each mode. The transmission units of non-primary
modes are connected to the co-transmission unit through the interconnection ports
on the backplane.

DT requirement: The roaming user does not camp on LTE in idle mode and does not swit
ch to LTE in connected mode.
For the unsubscribed user of LTE, if its terminal supports LTE, it is required that the user
do not continuously measure LTE signals and do not camp on LTE.
Customer's Benefits:
The unsubscribed multimode user of LTE directly camps on GSM, and does not continuo
usly measure LTE signals. This saves power consumption and improves user experience.
This helps the customer to implement the flexible mobility management strategy on roa
ming users in idle mode.
Competition Analysis:
E///: supported by 12B (12Q4)
Solution:
According the IMSI information of the user, configure the SPID value of the user on the
HSS. The RAN obtains the IMSI information of the user from the CN. Based on the IMSI a
nd the strategy on the BSC side, the RAN maps the information to the dedicated band pri
ority that can be comprehended by the UE. The priority information is sent to the UE thro
ugh Channel Release and PMO messages.

Interoperability: Fast Return to LTE for SRVCC/CSFB User & QoS Optimization for SRVCC
Back
Customer's Benefits:
Customer's Benefits:
Ensure that the voice service experience of SRVCC user does not compromise after the
user switches to the GSM network, which improves the SRVCC handover
The time for the G2L SRVCC user to return to LTE decreases from 5-8s to less than 500 ms.
The time for the U2L SRVCC user to return to LTE decreases from 5-8s to 3.5-4s.
The time for the U2L CSFB user to return to LTE decreases from 5-8s to 3.5-4s. The risk of network
disconnection is avoided (23s).
Application Scenario:
Ensure that the voice service experience of SRVCC user does not compromise after the
user switches to the GSM network, which improves the SRVCC handover
Application Scenario:
CSFB and SRVCC are deployed for LTE. In specific scenarios, the UE falls back from LTE to GSM or UMTS.
The LTE user that switched to GSM/UMTS through CSFB or SRVCC quickly returns to LTE after the voice
service is complete.
To ensure the voice service experience of the SRVCC user and improve the SRVCC
handover preparation success rate/MOS when the user switches from the LTE
network to the GSM network
Solution
During a call, the GSM user periodically measures LTE signals. When the call is released, the system
determines whether to trigger the G2L Fast Return according to the measurement result. After the
SRVCC/CSFB voice service is complete, the RNC triggers LTE measurement and determines whether
to trigger the U2L Fast Return according to the measurement result.
Restrictions and Restraints: GSM user supporting LTE measurement in connected mode; requiring
chip support; supported by Qualcomm 14Q4
Solution
After identifying the SRVCC user, the BSC ensures the resources allocated to the user
in the following ways: Preferentially allocating full-rate channels to the user and
reducing VAMOS and half-rate channel allocation.

Scenario
The LTE network does not support voice services, so the voice service
falls back to the UMTS network through CSFB. The delay of this
process is longer than a UMTS only voice service setup process,
deteriorating user experience.
Principle
The eNodeB uses the SRVCC handover process to instruct the MME,
MSC, and RNC to set up CS resources in advance and instruct the UE
to perform the SRVCC handover.
After the UE is handed over to the UMTS network, the MSC and UE
immediately implement subsequent signaling interaction of voice
services without the CS RAB assignment.

Power Sharing
In a multimode base station, GSM and UMTS carriers share the same power amplifie
r (PA).
GSM and UMTS networks cover the same area and load is imbalanced between GSM
and UMTS networks. GSM networks have lower traffic volume.
Based on multi-carrier and SDR technologies, when the GSM power consumption is l
ow, UMTS carriers can share the power of GSM carriers using the same PA; when GS
M services occur abruptly, GSM carriers reclaim the power that is shared with UMTS
carriers. GU power sharing allows a maximum of 15 W power to be borrowed by UM
TS carriers.
Benefits
Scenario
Implementation
Scenario
This feature has little impact on GSM networks because power of GSM carriers can b
e shared by UMTS carriers only when traffic on the GSM network is light.
The GSM cell shares its idle power with the LTE cell that uses the same
PA.
The LTE cell distributes the shared power to the entire bandwidth
evenly.
Benefits
When a GSM and an LTE cell share the same PA, the GSM cell must be
configured with at least one non-BCCH carrier.
Implementation
In a multimode base station, GSM and LTE carriers share the PA.

SingleOM
Narrowly defined SingleOM: Unified O&M experience for multiple modes of a co-MPT base station
OSS provides the SingleOM Management feature: Only one main control board (UMPT) is deployed, and this board supports mode concurrency
(GO/UO/LO/GU/GL/UL/GUL) and unified O&M (SingleOM).
On the RAN side, SingleOM is considered as base station deployment architecture adjustment.
On the marketing interface, unified O&M experience is called SingleOM. Such SingleOM can be understood as generalized SingleOM. In this case, other base
stations and base station combinations except GBTS can be called SingleOM. In sales guide, separate-MPT SingleOM and co-MPT SingleOM correspond to
SingleOM deployment on different boards and SingleOM deployment on one board, respectively.

In a G&U BBU, a GSM main control board and a UMTS main control board are configured. In this case, "&" indicates that different mode
s' services are carried over different main control boards.
Example:
In a G*U BBU, only one main control board is configured, and this board processes both GSM and UMTS data. In this case, "*" indicates
that different modes share one main control board.
Example
In a G&U+L(G) MBTS, two BBUs are used, a GSM main control board and a UMTS main control board are configured in BBU 0, an LTE mai
n control board is installed in BBU 1, and SDR-enabled GL RF modules are used.
