Definition
:
Pollution is when
unwanted or
contaminated particles
enter the natural
environment causing
terrible change. The
component of
pollution is called
pollutants
.

1. Air Pollution
It occurs when harmful materials are released into
the earth`s atmosphere. Gases like carbon
monoxide, Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and
many others cause air pollution.

2. Noise Pollution
It occurs when disturbing or excessive noise
cause harm to human beings and animal
lives.

3. Land Pollution
It is also known as soil pollution. It occurs
when chemicals or contaminated particles are
present in the natural soil environment. The
most common chemicals are petroleum and
lead.

4. Light Pollution
It is also referred to as luminous pollution. It is
the adding of the light itself with added
sound, or gases, like carbon dioxide.

5. Water Pollution
It is when lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater
are polluted with contaminated or unfamiliar
substances. These pollutants can directly or
indirectly be discharged into the water bodies.
In 2014, Mauritius received 3905
million cubic metres of water from
rainfall. When compared to 2013, it
has been lowered.

6. Radio Contamination
It occurs when radioactive substances are
present on surfaces, in solids, liquids or gases.
Eg: In United States; Hanford sites in January
1960

7. Plastic Pollution
This refers to the increase of plastic products
in the environment which affect wildlife,
wildlife habitats and even human lives.

8. Visual Pollution
This is when the visual areas of people is
distributed by creating negative changes in
the natural environment. Eg: Open stirage of
trash, space debris, overcrowding areas.
In 2012, Mare-Chicose accommodated 387926
tonnes of waste materials. Moreover, it increased
by 10.8 % in 2013.
