What is it ?

A base fabric having a deposition of thermoplastic adhesive resin which can

be bonded to another fabric by the application of heat and pressure.

Started by Egyptians (3000-4000 BC)

Dr. Harold invented Fusibles in 1951.

Provides shape and strength to fabric.

Elements of fusing:

1. Temperaturea. limited range of temperatures that are effective

b. Strike Through
c. Strike Back
d. Normal temp. range 130o to 160o C
e. Tolerance 7o C

2. Time:

a.Whether the fusible has a high or low melt resin.

b.If a light or heavy substrate is being used.

c.The nature of the top cloth being used, i.e. thick or thin, dense or
open.

Spec sheet is supplied by manufacturer

3. Pressure:

a.Full contact is made between the top cloths and fusible.

b.Heat transfer is at the optimum level.

c.Even penetration of the viscous resin into the fibres of the top cloth.

Uses Steel rollers or plates for even pressure

Vertical actuating arm provides more even pressure than scissor action arm

Types

1. Steam Press

Cost Effective

Easy operations

Limitations:

Inability to reach the heat levels required by the majority of resins.

Restriction of shape of size of panels to be fused.

If attachment can occur then detachment also.

No pressure regulation

Type of press

3 trays for loading, fusing and cooling

Option of feeding system:

Single tray

Twin tray

Pressure mechanismVertical Action

Scissor action

Conveyor belt press

Can be operated without stopping for the loading and unloading

Very high production rate

High capital investment

Transports the assemblies through all the processes

Microprocessor control every aspect of operations

Recent Trends

Direct stabilization

Prints directly on base fabric

No need of top cloth

2. High Frequency stabilisation:

Uses high frequency for heating

Works on dipole principle

Energy efficient

Quick startup time

Suggested Machine Improvement

1. Placement of heat sensor:

2. Quick and narrow thermostat region:

Helps in achieving max efficiency

3. Customised Heating Zones:

Relocating of heat sensor for better feedback

Perfect solution for polyzonal fabric

4. Self regulating machine:

Decreases chance of human error and intervention.

Consistent fusing results due to consistent pressure over the entire

operating width

separate feeding belt

no cooling of transport belt outside of machine due to separate feeding belt

Easy operating with new 7 colour touch display

Reduced wear and tear of belt edge through contact-free belt detection

Prevention of faulty fusing through start/stop-function in the event of a

diversion from pre-set fusing parameters. This allows the operator tostep in

Consistent fusing quality due to optimized cleaning of the belts both on the
inner and the outer side. Consequently, major reduction in soiling of roller
and fusing material
