INTRODUCTION OF
ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE :
Corporate culture refers to the shared
values, beliefs and meanings among
members of the organization. Culture is
resistant to change or control; it is also
difficult to manage. Just as every individual
has a personality, every company has a
different culture.

SUMMARY
:Wegmans company is an ideal example of successfully
managing employees and maintaining a productive work
environment, while satisfying customer needs. The Wegman
companys employees value statement, employees first,
customers second, is not simply an espoused statement, but
one that employees and managers enact into their work culture
everyday. Wegmans case demonstrates various strategies that
management enact to maintain employee satisfaction and what
the Wegman company does to attract and retain employees.

Would you characterize Wegmans culture as
strong or weak? Why?
How is the strength of the culture at Wegmans
likely to affect its
employees, particularly new hires?

We think it is a strong culture. In a strong culture the


organization's core values both intensely held and
widely shared. In this case, we can see that the
presidents of Wegmans have continued its tradition of
taking care of its employees. Employees in Wegmans
are proud to say that they work at Wegmans. And it is
this kind of corporate culture that makes the
employees driven, happy and loyal to the company.
So we recognize it is a strong culture.

EFFECT ON EMPLOYEES :
1. The strength of the culture at Wegmans makes it
employees realize their values. And it let them view
working for the grocer as their career.
2. This culture which focuses on taking care of
employees, bring employees handsome pay and
college scholarship. This gives them a satisfaction on
the material level.
3. For new hires, they will be encouraged to work hard,
because they know what they can get from the
company.
4. This culture make employees loyal to the company,
which can reduce turnover.

Wegmans attempts to maintain its core cultural values
by hiring individuals who are passionate about the food
industry and by staffing new stores partly with existing
employees. What are some advantages and
disadvantages of trying to impose a similar culture
throughout different areas of a company?

Advantages
1. Wegman contributes to making employees from different
areas to work under the unified values. This can assure
the quality of services and products at the same eve .
2. Creating a good brand image of the company .
3. New employees can easily grasp the value of the
organizational and perform effectively and smarty.
4. Existing employees are effectively ingrained in the
Wegman culture and can lead the new employees to
perform the same value.
5. Employees fee satisfaction and belongingness towards
the company.
6. Achieving e high eve financial growth throughout the
years as we as goodwill and market share.

Disadvantages
1.Up gradation and innovation of the services may be ignored.
2.Customers may assume the services as outdated.
3.Changes in the external environment like economic, culture
fashion, lifestyle may create threats to the organization.
4.Employees not opened to growth opportunities.
5.Competitors can easily affect its growth by providing same
services with additional features and advantages.
6.Potential employees with excellent and innovative ideas may
fee hesitate to express or difficult to apply their ideas.
7.Due to family based business culture, potential employees
fee uncared and lose motivation and desire, this tend to
reduce hard work culture and impact on profit and market
share.

Ways to overcome

One of the identifiable strengths of the


company is the ability to gear the
employees towards achieving the same
goal. The employees are normal educated
about the goals and various roles are
always set straight for each employees to
participate. This enables the employees to
have their minds and skis work together
and develop new ideas for the betterment
of Wegman.

A culture sating time to listen to employees visions is an


opportunity that needs to be set in the entity. they will
share their oriented thought and see the management
execute them. there is needful people to reach out for aid
and in response feel appreciated when they assist others. It
is good also for the management to establish practices that
acknowledge the companies welfare and the employees
welfare.
Threats to a sustainable business culture will always
arise but they can be solved once they are well thought of.
the adapted ways of solving such threats vary from
company to company. Wegmans under its management has
to adapt to the above strategies to avoided the effects of
such threats.

What is the primary source of Wegmans
culture and what are some ways that it has
been able to sustain itself ?

The primary source of Wegmans culture is


the employees who are recruited according
to their interest in food. The culture of the
organization does not immerge
automatically at once. It is a consequence
of series of activities. Wegmans corporate
culture is family based where everyone
cooperates each others happy and maintain
good relationship with each other.

This culture creation occurred in mainly


three ways :
1. They hire the people who think the same way.
2. They socialized these employees in to their way of thinking
and feeling.
3. Their own behavior acted as a role model that encourages
employees internalized the core values, norms and
practices of founders to themselves.

How might stories and rituals pay a
role in maintaining Wegman corporate
culture ?

etc. Serves as anchor for the present and
legitimize current practice.
Rituals: Repetitive sequences of activities
that express and reinforce the values of
the organization.

Maintaining the corporate culture the benefits of stories


are explained as they anchor the present in the past and
provide legitimacy to current practices. Stories and rituals
can come from the managers ,executives and even the
original owners of the company. The current president of
Wegman share their stories and rituals with their
employees to encourage innovation and remind them out
of the box. In order to attract and retain the people of
same value one must first know what organization's value
are .Shared values between employees and organizations
make it uncomplicated to attract and retain employees.
Wegmans is way above the market standards of treating
their employees through higher wages and benefits.

conclusion

In conclusion we can say that due to sustainable


business culture at Wegman success of the
company has been very easy .The motivational
methods of the employees has made them
become the most competitive company ,in the
supermarket industry. The value and respect that
the company have for its employees and their
ideas makes the staff of Wegman proud to work
their. A though there is a threat for a sustainable
work culture , it can overcome those with effective
ways and make Wegman a successful as is has
always been since the birth of the company
