What is a Shell Structure?

Curved two-dimensional structure

hard covering of eggs, crustacea, tortoises, etc
Latin scalus, as in fish scale
IS 2210: 1988 - Stressed skin structures which,
because of their geometry and small flexural rigidity of
the skin, tend to carry loads primarily by direct stresses
acting in their plane
Good energy absorbers.
Study of responses for large deformations
Shell geometery - Combinations of basic shapes
under different loading conditions
