Auto-negotiation
Port management provides two main functions: auto-negotiation and flow control.
Auto-negotiation: The auto-negotiation function enables one network device to transmit information
about its supported working modes to the opposite end and to receive corresponding information from
the opposite end.
Auto-negotiation of a GE electrical port on OptiX RTN 320: A GE electrical port on OptiX RTN
320 supports six working modes, that is, 10M half-duplex, 10M full-duplex, 100M half-duplex, 100M
full-duplex, 1000M half-duplex, and 1000M full-duplex.
Auto-negotiation of a GE optical port on OptiX RTN 320: A GE optical port on OptiX RTN 320
only supports the 1000M full-duplex working mode. The auto-negotiation function is used only for
negotiating the flow control function.
On the NE Explorer, choose Configuration > Interface Management > Ethernet Interface from the
Function Tree.
Page 5
Flow Control
When the data processing/forwarding capability of the equipment fails to handle the flow received
on the port, congestion occurs on the port. To reduce the number of discarded packets due to
buffer overflow, proper flow control measures must be taken.
Auto-negotiation flow control: When the Ethernet port works in auto-negotiation mode, you can
adopt the auto-negotiation flow control function. The auto-negotiation flow control mode configured
for an OptiX RTN 320 can only be set to Disabled and Enable Symmetric Flow Control.
Non-autonegotiation flow control: When the Ethernet port works in fixed working mode, you can
adopt the non-autonegotiation flow control function. The non-autonegotiation flow control mode
configured for an OptiX RTN 320 can only be set to Disabled and Enable Symmetric Flow
Control.
On the NE Explorer, choose Configuration > Interface Management > Ethernet Interface >
Flow Control from the Function Tree.

E-Line Services
The point-to-point transparently transmitted E-Line services are the basic E-Line model. Point-to-point
transmission does not involve service bandwidth sharing, service isolation, or service distinguishing;
instead, Ethernet services are transparently transmitted between two service access points.
Networking model:
Mode 1: The encapsulation attributes of both port1 and port2 are set to "Null". The source port
transparently transmits all the Ethernet frames to the sink port.
Mode 2: The encapsulation attributes of both port1 and port2 are set to TAG. The source port processes
the Ethernet frames according to the TAG attributes and then transmits the Ethernet to the sink port. The
sink port processes the received Ethernet frames according to the TAG attributes and then transmits the
Ethernet frames.

Therefore, configure point-to-point transparently transmitted E-Line services on GE1 port of NE1 and
the IF port of NE2 respectively.
Page 10
1. When an NE is initially configured, choose Ethernet Service Management > E-LAN Service from the Function Tree. Then,
click Delete.
2. Choose Ethernet Service Management > E-Line Service from the Function Tree. Select Source and Sink.
3. Leave VLAN ID empty for both the source and sink.
4. Set Port Enabled to Enabled for GE1 port (IF port is enabled by default). Set Encapsulation Type to Null for both GE1 port
and IF port.

Mode" to a value the same as that of the external equipment (Generally, "Working Mode" of the external
equipment is set to "Auto-Negotiation".) For Ethernet ports within a network, set "Working Mode" to "AutoNegotiation".
Flow control: Generally, the flow control function is enabled only when a local NE or the peer equipment
is inadequate for QoS processing. The planning information of flow control must be the same for the
equipment at both ends.

Test requirements: Test the connectivity of the service whose VLAN ID is 200 between
NE21_GE1 port and NE23_IF port.
Test procedures:
1. Create an MD, MA, and MEP on the NE21-NE22-NE23 service.
2. Perform an LB test.
