Objectives
To develop an understanding of:
The role and scope of SIA
The types of social impacts that can result from
development proposals; and
The principles, procedure and methods that are
used to assess and mitigate social impacts.
What is SIA
There is no widely agreed definition of SIA.
simply, it focuses on the impact of development
proposals on people
SIA is to identify the human consequences of a
proposed action, giving particular attention to the
mitigation of adverse or unintended aspects
Social impacts is the consequences to people of
any proposed action that changes the way they
live, work, relate to one another, organise
themselves and function as individuals and members
of society.
