SEPEP

VOLLEYBALL

WHAT IS SEPEP?

The aim of SEPEP is for you to learn how to


plan, manage and run your own sports
season.
Similar concept to community sport (local
clubs)
Student centered approach to learning
As well as being players, some students will
be able to take on other roles involved in
running the competition. This enables them
to demonstrate their leadership skills.

WHAT ARE THESE ROLES?

Player
Duty Team
Sports board
Coach
Captain
Scorer
First Aid officer

PLAYER

Everyone is a player
The role of the player is the most important
one in the whole season
Duties:
Be changed each week
Participate to the best of your ability
Get everyone involved in the games encourage
others
Play fairly and be a good sports person
Co-operate with team mates

SEPEP is about enjoyment

DUTY TEAM

Each team will be the duty team at least once


during the season
Responsible for the collection of equipment,
umpiring and scoring each game.
Important to know when your team is the duty
team (check the duty roster in the Sports Centre)
Duties:
Must still get changed into PE uniform
Collect, set up and return equipment
Provide one umpire per court
Score and give score sheets to official scorer

SPORTS BOARD
Responsible for the planning and running of the season.
A very important job because the whole group relies on
the sports board to do a good job.
Need to be very responsible, a good communicator and
organised.
Duties:
Select even ability teams
Communicating with the group about student
expectations, information etc.
Organising the fixtures each week
Work with other students who have roles and assist
them when required.

COACH

Each team has a coach who is also a player


Responsible for organising training sessions
Help team mates to improve their skills and
knowledge of volleyball
Important to have a good knowledge of
volleyball
Duties:
Devise training drills that will help their team
improve
Lead their team in warm ups (focus on skill &
strategy)
Assist team members with knowledge of the rules
Motivate your team to work together and try their

CAPTAIN
Responsible for directing their teams in games
Lead their team in games by setting an example in terms
of playing, behaviour and effort
Good communication skills
Duties:
Make sure your team has collected and returned all
equipment when it is your teams turn to be the duty team
Toss the coin before the game
Be responsible for after match cheers
Work with coach to sort out disputes (if any) among players
Listen to all team members when making decisions

SCORER

Responsible for the recording of results


for the season.

Duties:
Draw up a results table
Collect score cards from each game and
write up the results each week
Give teams updates of the scores
throughout the season

FIRST AID OFFICER

Responsible for collecting and maintaining


the first aid kits.
Duties:
Collect two first aid kits from the first aid
room
Put ice packs in each kit
Carry the kits to the volleyball courts and
return them to the first aid room at the end
of the lesson

NOMINATIONS & VOTING


1. Call for nominations for each role
2. Students nominated to accept / decline
3. Voting of students for each role
. Sport board x 4 members (2 per class)
. Coaches x 6 (3 per class/1 per team)
. Official Scorer x 2 (1 per class)
. First Aid Officer x 2 (1 per class)
