What is the RTMS?

RTMS Radar-based vehicle detector
Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave Radar unit
) transmits at 10.525 GHz X-band [or 24.2 GHz for K-band
(CE Marked)]
) receives reflected energy for stationary or moving
objects
) all weather performance
) transmit power < cordless phone

Why we created RTMS?

To meet a traffic engineers wish list of detector
capabilities:
) function like a loop
detect moving and standing vehicles
work in all weather conditions
) cover many lanes (replaced many loops)
) easy to install and maintain (no lane closures)
) provide Volume, Occupancy, Average Speed and
Classification

Measures Volume, Occupancy, Average Speed
and Classes in up to eight lanes.

FTMS Bridges and Tunnels

Bridges and tunnels
) Critical links, where congestion can be extreme
) Security issues are a growing concern

Incident detection is key

Sensor performance issues:
) Vibration, Environment, Lighting

Installation Requirements
Mounting requirements are:
) 17-25 Feet above the roadway

Use existing structures when available

) Lamp poles, CCTV poles, sign structures

Safety
Installation behind traffic barrier
No lane closure required for
most side fired installations

RTMS Outputs
The RTMS provides 2 different data outputs:
) 8 optically isolated contact pairs. One pair per zone of
detection
) Serial port for RS232/485 data. Supplies information
for all zones

Contact pairs and serial port can operate at the

same time.
