Similarities?

Both of the
mastheads are
bold and stand
out from front
cover

Both main images

follow rule of
thirds- the main
subject is placed in
the middle- direct
mode of address

Cover lines are both positioned along the side.

Differences
They also have a
date where I do
not. I forgot
however Ill do
this next time

The other
magazine has
many more
cover lines
than mine.

How you followed the codes and

conventions?
I have followed codes and conventions of a magazine in my
own magazine. I have done this by including a puf. I did this
to provoke readers interest in the magazine and prompt them
to pick it up and read it. The puf on my magazine was an
unusual shape and therefore stuck out from the rest of the
cover. It draws attention to certain elements, like the Win.
Win is also a lure, which is a word that triggers the readers
interest. I have also used a mature colour scheme. Most
magazines have a colour scheme that is recurrent through all
their issues, and I have done the same. This is to create
familiarity and a theme between them. I used purple and white
and lilac, which are stereotypically girls colours. I wanted to
use more mature, gender neutral colours so the magazine
didnt look like it was aimed towards a niche audience. With
mis-en-scene, I made sure the shot I used was a close up; this
is so the subject is the only one in shot. The lighting is bright,
which connotes happiness and possitivity. I also made sure the

In what ways does your media product use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions
of media products?
I used rule of thirds, and positioned my subject in
the centre of the grid. I purposely did this as it created
a direct mode address with the reader and helps to
communicate with individual readers. There is a lot of
attention of the eyes which helps to make the photo
more engaging with the audience, and making them
more likely to purchase it. The Cosmopolitan cover
also does this, which is why I have replicated it.
Conventionally, magazines have more cover lines on
them than mine. I have decided to include less as I did
not want to clutter the main image and take the
attention off that. Therefore, chose to only use cover
lines that were so interesting the reader would buy the

Comparison

I have kept the masthead purple because it creates familiarity

with the sixth forms colour theme, which establishes a
connection between the two. I kept the the and Source
separate. This is because I wanted to make sure the Source
stood out the most, as that was the point I wanted to get across
to readers; it is the source of knowledge. The is irrelevant.

Comparison

I have decided to make the puff bigger. This is so I drew more

people in,and it served more of a purpose. I also made Mandy
bigger and more visible compared to the over coverlines,as I
have done on my draft. This is because she is the main
feature, and the fact Mandy is in capitals makes it look like she
has more dominance and power over the other coverlines.

Comparison

I also placed my subjects head in

the key points of my rule of
thirds. This was a medium close
up and I know this because you
can see her shoulders, but she is

Comparison

I forgot to put the selling line on my magazine, which has

annoyed me because I feel like it summed up the magazine and
wouldve enabled the audience to find more out about the
magazine without even picking it up.
