CONCLUSION

IDENTIFICATI
ON
Dolphin is a very intelligent animal. They are
mammals that live in the sea. Although classified
as mammals, many people calling them as fish,
because these animals can indeed live in the
water and swim like a fish. In fact, dolphins like
cats, cows, and goats which are truly a mammal
or a breastfeeding animal.

CHARACTERI
STIC
Dolphins range in size from the 1.7 metres
and 50 kilograms
Although the dolphins have 100 teeth, they
dont use their teeth to eat. They use it to
get fish then they swallow the fish.
Though not quite as flexible as seals, some
dolphins can travel at 55.5 kilometres per
hour

KINGDO
M
Dolphins are an informal grouping within the
order Cetacea, excluding whales and porpoises,
so to zoologists the grouping is paraphyletic. The
dolphins
comprise
the
extant
families
Delphinidae (the oceanic dolphins), Platanistidae
(the Indian river dolphins), Iniidae (the new world
river dolphins), and Pontoporiidae (the brackish
dolphins).

DIFFERENCE
Several species exhibit sexual dimorphism, in that the
males are larger than females. They have streamlined
bodies and two limbs that are modified into flippers.
They use them to turn left and right.
The female dolphins have a thick layer of fat under
their skin to keep the warm when they dive very
deep.
To move easily, they have a body that is tapered and
shaped like a torpedo. They can move in the water
easily because they have two parts of body namely
the pectoral fins and dorsal fins.

HABIT
AT
They can live in all waters that exist in the
world. They can be met anywhere either tropical
or sub-tropical regions. There are many species
of dolphins that choose to live in coastal waters
as we often find at the Kiluan Bay in Lampung.

FOO
D
For the most part, dolphins eat other smaller fish, but they are
not limited to just fish. They eat squid, too, and some
dolphins, like Killer Whales, will often eat small sea mammals
like seals and penguins. Dolphins often hunt together, fish
into packed groups or into inlets where therding hey can be
easily caught. Dolphins get the water they need from the
animals they eat, rather than drinking ocean water.

REPRODUCTI
ON
Mating Season:Throughout the year, though in some
areas there is a peak in spring and fall.
Gestation:9-17 months depending on the species.
When it is time to give birth, the female will distance
herself from the pod, often going near the surface of
the water.
Number of offspring:Usually one calf; twins are rare.
As soon as the calf is born, the mother must quickly
take it to the surface so it can take its first breath. The
calf will nurse from 11 months to 2 years, and after it is
done nursing it will still stay with its mother until it is
between 3 and 8 years old.

HOW TO
DEFEND
Dolphins use their conical shaped teeth to
capture fast moving prey. They have welldeveloped hearing, which is adapted for both air
and water, is so well developed that some can
survive even if they are blind. Some species are
well adapted for diving to great depths. They
have a layer of fat, or blubber, under the skin to
keep warm in the cold water.

BEHAVI
OR
Dolphins are well known for their agility and playful behavior,
making them a favorite of wildlife watchers. Many species
will leap out of the water, spy-hop and follow ships, often
synchronizing their movements with one another.
Dolphins live in social groups of five to several hundred. They
use echolocation to find prey and often hunt together by
surrounding a school of fish, trapping them and taking turns
swimming through the school and catching fish. Dolphins will
also follow seabirds, other whales and fishing boats to feed
opportunistically on the fish they scare up or discard.

FACT
S
Dolphins are extraordinarily intelligent animals who also display
culture, something which was long-believed to be unique to humans.

Dolphins have been observed teaching young how to usetools.

They cover their snouts with sponges to protect them while foraging.

Dolphins have several highly developed forms of communication.

They have a signature whistle which allows other individuals to
recognise them.
Dolphins are altruistic animals. They are known to stay and help
injured individuals, even helping them to the surface to breath. Their
compassion also extends across the species-barrier.
Dolphins are incredibly social animals. They live in groups and
cooperate with each other to get food and in raising offspring
(calves).

Dolphins are extremely playful and curious

animals. They play-fight with each other and
also play with seaweed. They have also been
known toplay with other animals such as dogs.
Dolphins sleep by resting one side of the brain
at a time.
Dolphins use echolocation to find food and
navigate. This is a natural version of radar.
Dolphins can jump as high as 20 feet out of the
water.
The killer whale, or Orca, is actually a dolphin.

CONCLUSI
ON
Dolphins are the relatives of whales. Dolphin is a smart
mammal which lives in the sea. It can help human beings
if they are already well-trained. Even they often appear in
the animal circus. People train them to perform. However,
nowadays, there are many people who care about its
population and its freedom. It is revealed that dolphins
which live as circus performer do not live well. It can make
them live shorter than if they live in the natural habitat.
