When the physical condition of

the total number of

because Mucor sp needs a lot of
water [E1] to grow & reproduce
rapidly[E2]. // Damp condition is

INTERPRET DATA

EXPLANATION (FROM THE
GRAPH)
STATE THE EFFECT OF MV
ON RV
GIVE EXPLANATION (+
THEORY)

In the damp condition the Mucor

sp has the highest area coverage
while in the dried condition Mucor
sp has the lowest area coverage
[REL]. This is because Mucor sp
needs water to grow and
reproduce [E21] therefore damp
bread is the most suitable
condition for Mucor sp to grow
and reproduce[E2]

COLONISATION IS A PROCESS
WHERE THE NUMBER OF BOXES
COVERED BY MUCOR sp (RV),
KEPT IN THE CUPBOARD FOR 5

THE PHYSICAL CONDITION OF
THE BREAD (MV)

Procedures

1. A knife is used to cut out the agar into four

different dimensions :
Cube A : 1cm X 1cm X 1cm
Cube B : 2cm X 2cm X 2cm
Cube C : 4 cm X 4 cm X 4 cm [K2MANIPULATED VARIABLE]
2. Each agar cube is immersed in a beaker
containing coloured water(K1) for 20 minutes
(K3- operating the fixed variable)
3. After 20 minutes, the agar cubes are
removed and dried with filter water .(K5-

4. Each cube is then cut into half. (K1)

5. The percentage area stained in the agar
cube is estimated and calculated using
the formulae :
(a)Area stained by the coloured ink = total area
of cube area of cube that is not stained

(b)Percentage area stained by the coloured

ink = area stained by the coloured ink X
