Early Life
Mr. Anil Manibhai Naik born in 9th June 1942, third to his
parents after two girls.
Endhal, a village in South Gujarat.
Belongs to a family of teachers, his father & grand father
being teachers.
His father was a senior teacher at Hansraj Morarjee Public
School at Andheri and has participated in Quit India
Movement in 1942
His elder sister became the first doctor in their community.
1952 returned to their village which affected the English

Graduation in Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya
Engineering College, Anand, Gujarat.
Career
Mukand Iron & Steel Works:
Starting salary of Rs. 350/- a month in 1963.
Increased to Rs. 500/- during his confirmation.
He has been told to improve his English Skills.
Nestor Boilers:
Later he joined Nestor Boilers.
He was earning Rs. 850/- per month and 350 people were
reporting to him
His career growth was arrested because of the style of
management and again he started looking for better
opportunities.
Career
Beating an IITian:
Interviewed by Mr. Baker & joined L&T on Mar 15, 1965
Seemed over-confident for Mr. Hanson after offering
Rs760/- for the job of an assistant engineer, a supervisory,
grade-B post.
Degraded his posting as junior engineer, starting at
Rs.670 / But he could prove his confidence level within 6 months
and got his first promotion.
In Apr 1966, he was promoted to a level higher than
supervisory grade.
Within 18 months In-charge of entire workshop and 800
people were reporting to him & he was just 25yrs of age.
Becoming a Leader
His success story continued with some hiccups:
1968 Became the youngest Production Manager
1st Apr 1974, became the youngest DGM
In 1974 change in management Europeans left &
suddenly seniority started playing a major role
1979 became JGM remained for 7 years
1985 21 Years record of not taking day-offs.

1999 CEO & MD of L&T (Apr, 20th)
2003 Chairman of L&T (Dec, 9th)
2009 Net Profit of Rs. 5308 Crores/ 2013 Annual Revenues of Rs. 61471 Crores/-

"We had Saturdays off, and I would usually come in from a
tour on a Saturday, and then go around the plant on
Sunday," AMN says. So even before he became CEO,
Naik had started preparing to lead L&T.
"He works very hard, and expects the same from others.
He does not accept mediocre work," "His business
acumen is really high, says Deosthalee. Naik's greatest
strengths are his long-term vision and networking chops.

Achievements of AMN
In 1965, L&T was chosen as partners for building nuclear
reactors and he started working in that critical project.
In 1971, delivered Indias first nuclear reactor and set up
nuclear steel generators competing with BHEL
In 1972, India launched its space programme and AMN
was made responsible for taking the programme.
In-charge of the whole manufacturing from SLV (space
launch vehicles) to advanced SLV to PSLV (Polar Satellite
Launch Vehicle) to GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite
Launch Vehicle) and now to advanced GSLV.
Successful completion of these projects laid the
foundation for L&T getting into more nation building
projects
Achievements of AMN
L&T Transportation Infrastructure - Bridges, Roads,
Metros, Airports, Seaports, Power Development-Nuclear &
Hydro, L&T Project Finance Company, L&T Infotech are
few of the major business sectors for which the foundation
stone was laid by AMN.
60% of 165 businesses which L&T is into has been
initiated by AMN

Honors of AMN
Honorary Consul General for Denmark.
Nominated as the Co-leader of the India-Malaysia CEOs
Forum, by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GOI.
Senior and active member of the CII National Council.
Led the Indian industry's delegation to the 17th Congress
of World Energy Council held at Houston in 1998.
Member of the Board of Trade, Ministry of Commerce,
GOI, Fellow of the INAE and Member of Board of
Governors of the IIM, Ahmedabad.
Appointed as Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog by the
Queen of Denmark, Her Majesty Queen Margarethe. The
Knight Cross was formally presented by the Ambassador
of Denmark, Mr. Ole Lansmann Poulsen, in Mumbai on
February 25, 2008.
