Stabilized Mud Blocks

Introduction
Stabilized mud blocks (SMBs)
are manufactured by
compacting a wetted mixture
of soil, sand, and stabilizer in
a machine into a high-density
block.

Stabilized Mud Block

Technology is a simple, cost
effective, environmental
friendly technology

Uses and Advantages

Such blocks are used for the construction of loadbearing masonry. Cement soil mortar is commonly used
for SMB masonry.
It utilizes local materials and reduced energy
consumption and thus, reduces the cost. Energy
efficient- 70% savings when compared to burnt bricks
Economical (20-40% when compared to brick masonry).
The net financial advantage in terms of labour per block
is Rs.1.50 whereas in conventional methods is 30-40p
Plastering of walls can be eliminated
Highly decentralized production
Better block finish
Aesthetically pleasing
Lower amount of mortar required for wall construction

HOLLOW CONCRETE
BLOCK
Introduction
Hollow concrete blocks are
substitutes for conventional bricks
and stones in building
construction. They are lighter than
bricks, easier to place and also
confer economics in foundation
cost and consumption of cement
In comparision to conventional
bricks, they offer the advantages
of uniform quality, faster speed of
construction, lower labour
involvement and longer durability

Uses and Advantages

Foundation walls - typically rockfaced.

Basement walls.
Partition walls - usually plainfaced.
Exterior walls - usually plainfaced and then often covered with
stucco.
Most concrete block was used as a back-up material or for cavity
wall construction.
Coatings are often are applied to concrete block in order to prevent
water penetration; some of these include Portland cement paints,
latex paints, oil- and rubber-based coatings, epoxy coatings, alkyd
paints, urethanes and silicones; a single type may be selected for a
specific function including its water resistance; other factors to
consider might also include its resistance to ultraviolet rays, its
breathability, its resistance to alkalis, and its colorationor visual
appearance when applied to the block.

Uses and Advantages

Highly Durable: The good concrete compacted by high
pressure and vibration gives substantial strength to
the block. Proper curing increase compressive strength
of the blocks
Low Maintenance, Color and brilliance of masonry
withstands outdoor elements.
Load Bearing, strength can be specified as per the
requirement.
Fire Resistant
Provide thermal and sound insulation: The air in hollow
of the block, does not allow outside heat or cold in the
house. So it keeps house cool in summer and warm in
winter.
Economical
Environment Friendly, fly ash used as one of the raw

Aerated Concrete Blocks

Introduction
Aeratedconcrete blocks, also known
asautoclaved cellular
concrete(ACC),autoclaved lightweight
concrete(ALC),autoclaved
concrete,cellular concrete,porous
concrete,Air Crete,Hebel Block.
It is a lightweight, precast, foam concrete
building material invented in the mid1920s that simultaneously provides
structure, insulation, and fire- andmouldresistance. AAC products include blocks,
wall panels, floor and roof panels, cladding
(facade) panels and lintels.

Uses and Advantages

AAC is a highlythermally insulatingconcrete-based
material used for both internal and external construction.
Besides AAC's insulating capability, one of its advantages
in construction is its quick and easy installation, because
the material can berouted, sanded, or cut to size on site
using standard carbon steel power tools.
AAC is well suited for urban areas with high rise buildings
and those with high temperature variations.
Due to its lower density, high rise buildings constructed
using AAC require less steel and concrete for structural
members.

Improved thermal efficiency reduces the heating and

cooling load in buildings.

Uses and Advantages

Porous structure allows for superior fire resistance.
Workability allows accurate cutting, which minimizes
the generation of solid waste during use.
Resource efficiency gives it lower environmental
impact in all phases of its life cycle, from processing of
raw materials to the disposal of waste.
Light weight saves cost & energy in transportation,
labor expenses, and increases chances of survival
during seismic activity.[6]
Larger size blocks leads to faster masonry work.
Reduces the cost of the project.
Quick Assembly: Since it is a lightweight material and
easy to work with, the assembly is much quicker and
smoother.
