In magazines, the bigger the font size the better. A big font
makes the text easy to read which is important for the
masthead and main coverline. Also, it stand out from the page
so grabs the audiences attention. Where as, a smaller font is
more difficult to see and doesnt stand out. A large font also
signifies importance of the magazine.

Colour
Different colours portray different meanings.
They also signify genre, the target audience
and who the magazine is aimed at.

The right and wrong choices

Choosing the right fonts and colours
together is important because it informs us
of the genre and also informs the audience
of the type of magazine and who it is aimed
at.

Wrong choices

Pop
Sensation

These fonts and colours are the wrong choices because the
colours are not complimentary because they are both quite
faded colours and the fonts to not indicate the magazine genre.
These fonts and colours are not suited to each other and make
it uncomfortable and confusing for the audience to read, also,
the black background does not relate to the genre of pop music
and neither do they faded colours because pop music is quite
upbeat and happy.

Wrong choices

Raging
ROCK

The colours in this text do not symbolise stereotypical rock music

views. For example; yellow symbolises happiness and peace,
green connotes earth an blue connote relaxation. Where as, rock
is usually associate with rebellion and anger. Therefore, the
colours should be black and red. Also, the second font seems
childish and do not connote the genre as rock, nor does it appeal
to the target audience. The fonts also make the text difficult to
read and they are not eye catching. The first font is associated
with royalty and upper class/ posh, which does not fit with the
genre of rock.

Right choices

POP
SENSATION
The colours in this font are complimentary colours and stand out
to the audience and grabs their attention because they arent
both bright or both dull. The font also stands out because it is big
and bold and simple, therefore, it grabs the audiences attention
and makes it comfortable for them to read. The colours also
connote joy and happiness which link to the pop genre and appeal
to the target audience.

Right choices

RAGING ROCK
The colour red matches the word Raging therefore grabs the
audiences attention. Also, red and black are complimentary
colours and are associated with the genre of rock music. The
font is big, bold and stand out to the audience. It also looks
similar to old 80s rock music logo fonts. It is sharp and tall
which shows power and aggression- linking to the rock music
genre. The colour red connotes anger and rebellion therefore,
fits with the font style and informs the audience of genre, target
audience and who the magazine is aimed at. It also stands out
to the audience because the colours are bright but not
uncomforting, which also links to the genre because the colours

Fonts for my magazine

make it stand out. However, it looks a

Colours for my magazine

I prefer the black on this font for my
masthead because it stands out the best
and is simple and easy to read. Also, it is
dark so fits with the rock theme.
The red fits with the rock colours and fits
with the name demise. Also, it appeals
to both genders stereotypically.

This colour is bold and stands out of the

page. However, it would limit me of
what other colours I could use within my
magazine.
This colour is plain so I could have a
wide range of other colours on my
magazine. However, it is very subtle
and may be difficult to read from far
away because it is light.

MY FINAL MASTHEAD

I have chosen this as my final masthead because I am able to include

a colour range for each magazine. Also, it appeals to both genders
and it very bold and stands out from the page. This would make it
easy to notice from far away which would create brand recognition.
Also, the distressed look fits with the rock genre and appeals to my
target audience.
