Biotic Agents
1. Careful selection of wood - Decay resistant heartwood such as sweet
chestnut (Castarea Sative Mill.), oak (Quercus spp.), juniper (Juniperus
spp.) etc.
2. Coating - Prevent rapid uptake & loss of moisture & reduces shrinkage &
swelling.
*Addition of fungicides to coating provides some protection against
development of decay & mold fungi.
3. Drying - Klin drying kills fungi or insects that may attack the wood.

Abiotic Agents (Fire)

4. Fire retardants Increase the burning point & retard spread & penetration
of
flame.
*Fire retardants only reduce the flammability of wood & slow or eliminate
progressive combustion.
