Nickel Aluminum Bronze

Nickel aluminum bronzes contain 5 to 11 percent aluminum, as well as additions

of iron and nickel for strength. Increasing the aluminum content of bronze
results in higher strength. These nickel aluminum bronze alloys are used for
bushings, bearings, wear plates, and hydraulic valve components. Nickel
aluminum bronze is available in rod, tube, and plateforms.

Applications for Nickel Aluminum Bronze

The various
types of nickel aluminum bronze alloys are a popular choice for industrial
applications such as landing gear bushings and bearings for the aerospace
industry, propeller hubs, wear rings, and hardware for the marine industry, a
piping for vertical pump columns, firefighting and fire suppression systems, and
seawater lift pumps for the oil and gas industry, hydraulic bushings for earth
moving equipment, as well as many other applications. This is due specifically to
the addition of nickel which improves the corrosion resistance of the already
versatile aluminum bronze alloys. Iron acts as a grain refiner and increases
tensile strength without diminishing its excellent ductility and toughness.

Silicon Aluminum Bronze

Silicon aluminum bronze combines the self-lubricity of the silicon
with the higher mechanical properties of aluminum bronze. It is
sometimes used in place of C63000 nickel aluminum bronze
where specifications permit. C64200 silicon aluminum bronze is
free-machining and has good anti-galling and anti-seizing
properties.

Applications for Silicon Aluminum Bronze

Popular applications for silicon aluminum bronze are landing gear
parts, strut bushings, rock bit bearing bushings, valve guides,
safety belt assemblies, pole line hardware, valve and pump
components, cams, hooks, forged machined components, and
many more. Industries such as aerospace, oil and gas,
automotive, electrical, marine, and others all utilize silicon
aluminum bronze.

Silicon Bronze
Silicon bronze is a low-lead brass alloy that is generally
composed of 96 percent copper. The remainder can be made
from silicon and a variety of other alloys such as manganese,
tin, iron, or zinc. Silicon Bronze is known for its easy pouring
ability, appealing surface finish and superior corrosion
resistant properties, even when submerged in liquids and
chemicals. Silicon Bronze was originally developed for the
chemical industry but later expanded due to its good casting
characteristics.

Silicon Bronze Applications

Silicon bronze offers

added strength in conjunction with the self-lubricity of silicon
for excellent bearing and load properties. This is especially
useful when silicon bronze is used for bearing cages,
raceways and spacers specifically for the aerospace industry.

Silicon Bronze Product Example

sAMS 4616 is a
special high-strength silicon bronze that is easily machined
into ball bearing cage assemblies. The additional iron
content in this in C65620 provides added strength for easy
machine-ability. All material of AMS 4616 is DFARS compliant

Nickel Silver Bronze

Nickel silver bronze are alloys that

contain copper, tin, lead, nickel, and zinc. Nickel silver bronze
has low to moderate strength and good corrosion resistance and
are named for their silvery luster. They are used in the food and
beverage handling equipment, decorative hardware,
electroplated table ware, optical and photographic equipment
and musical instruments.

Manganese Bronze

Manganese bronze contains small

additions of manganese, iron, and aluminum, plus lead for
lubricity, anti-seizing, and bonding. Like the aluminum bronzes,
they combine high strength with excellent corrosion resistance.
Manganese bronze bearings can operate at high speeds under
heavy loads, but require high shaft hardness and nonabrasive
operating conditions. The various types of manganese bronze are
a popular choice for the aerospace, fastener, marine, and oil and
gas Industries. Typical applications in these industries include

Phosphor Bronze

Phosphor bronze, or tin bronze, is a

bronze alloy that contains a mixture of copper, tin and
phosphorous.

Qualities of Phosphor Bronze Alloys

Phosphor bronze
alloys are primarily used for electrical products because they
have superb spring qualities, high fatigue resistance, excellent
formability, and high corrosion resistance. The addition of tin
increases the corrosion resistance and strength of the alloy. The
phosphor increases the wear resistance and stiffness of the
alloy.Phosphor bronze C544 is one of the finest bearing alloys the
industry has to offer. Phosphor bronze is available in sheet, strip,
plate, wire, rod and bar.

Leaded Bronze

The main function of leaded bronze group

of alloys is to improve machinability. They are known for their
resistance towards corrosion and abrasion and their long
service life. Common applications include connectors for wire
and cable, electrical plug type connectors, door knobs, screws
and nuts, bushings for corrosion, rolling mill bearings, and
many more.
