FORMAL PROPOSAL

Charlotte Wilby

The title of my magazine

I have chose to call my magazine Rock-A-Roll. This is
because it is one of my personal favourites within my
choices but also I then found that it was the majority of the
students I asked also. This name also links into my theme
more as it states clearly that it is a rock magazine. It is
also linked into the history of rock music as rock music was
originally called rock and roll but also by shortening the
and to just a I am also appealing to todays youth as they
now use slang in an everyday conversation.

My choice of Genre
The initial reason I chose rock magazines was because
they are normally the one magazine that stands out from
the rest on a shelf in the shop. But then when I thought
about it more I found out that it is one of the easiest genres
to recreate as because it is mainly aimed towards a male
target audience and there are a lot of boys who would be
willing to model as they would only have to pull a moody
look. Rock music is also full of bright contrasting images
which is eye catching and the audience find that more
appealing.

Ideal target audience profile

Lifestyle

Joe enjoys listening to rock music, he also has a hobby of playing the guitar
and hanging out with his friends. Joe is at university studying preforming arts.
Joe has a part time job where he works in the local newsagents on his days
off which is very local to his university which is Nottingham Trent. This means
joe cannot afford to pay too much money for a magazine as he has the
pressure of buying food for himself at uni and only has a small part time job.

INITIAL IDEAS ABOUT THE

FRONT COVER PAGE

Typography

For my magazine I initially though of using one of these two

fonts for my masthead as both of these represent rock music
as they as they are thick and bold.

Images

Images I want to use of my magazine are where

the models are wearing dark clothing on either a
bright or dark background to help the cover
lines and the masthead stand out. Not all the
group, but each person singly.

INITIAL IDEAS ABOUT THE

CONTENTS PAGE

Typography

For my contents page I initially thought to have either the same

typography as the front cover or similar to the front page in
order to anchor the two pages together.

Images

Images I want to use of my

magazine contents page are where
the models are wearing dark
clothing on either a bright or dark
background which is very similar to
the front cover. This is in order to
anchor the two pages together.

INITIAL IDEAS FOR

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Images

Once again images I want to use of my magazine are models are wearing dark clothing on a
bright or dark background to help them stand out plus, from the results of my questionnaire, I
found that the target audience would prefer to see photos taken from a studio rather than a
location which is where I will get the light or dark background from. With the models posing
with a moody look on their faces.

Typography

I will use typography similar to these as I want to recreate a graffiti

style and representing this carefree attitude that rock bands
stereotypically have.
