Infrastructure
Corporation Limited (APIIC) is a Government of
Andhra Pradesh owned organization, incorporated
on 26th September, 1973 under the companies act
to
provide
and

basic
industrial
infrastructure in the Industrial Parks/Estates.
Has over 328 Industrial Estates/Special Economic
Zones spread over an area of about 1,21,000 Acres.
Is the nodal agency of Andhra Pradesh for
developing Mega Infrastructure Projects such as
APSEZ- Visakhapatnam, MPSEZ, Naidupeta etc.

Brief History of EMP Cell in APIIC

Keeping in view the increasing environmental

protection concerns across the globe, APIIC felt the
need of having an Environmental Management
Planning (EMP) for taking care of all kinds of
Environmental issues in the existing as well as
upcoming Industrial Parks, Special Economic Zones
and other Mega Industrial Parks of APIIC.

A separate EMP cell was established in the year 2004

to strengthen and to monitor the environmental

activities in the Existing/New/upcoming Industrial
Parks obtaining Environmental Clearances (ECs) to
the New/Upcoming Industrial Parks

ensuring the implementation of the terms and

conditions stipulated in Environmental Clearance
(EC).

Brief History of EMP Cell in APIIC

Initially the EMP wing was headed by Chief General
Manager (E) with meager supporting staff from engineering
wing along with an Environmental Specialist as Advisor.
In the year 2009 Six Environmental Engineers were
recruited in EMP wing.
Now the EMP issues are being monitored by the respective
Engineer-in-Chief/Chief Engineers at Head Office under ED
(N).
General Manager (EMP) along with the three (3)
Environmental Engineers are assisting E-in-C/CEs on EMP
matters.
Two field level Environmental Engineers assist the Zonal
Managers at the zonal level.

constructing CETPs/STPs in the Industrial Parks/SEZs
on need basis.
Common Effluent Treatment Plants:
4 CETPs were in Operation viz., JETL, PETL,
Pharmacity CETP, MANA CETP (Nacharam &
Mallapur),
2 CETPs are under construction viz., Fabcity CETP,
Kondapally CETP.
8 CETPs are proposed for future.
Pursued Construction & Commissioning of the Common
Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) on BOO basis at IP
Nacharam/Mallapur of Moula-Ali Zone successfully.

EMP wing is coordinating for finalization of bidder for

construction of CETP & Marine Outfall at APSEZ.

Emp activities plantation

Plants play a major role in curtailing the ill effects of
gaseous pollutants on the air environment.
10% of the land in the Industrial Parks are left for
developing plants and trees.
There are two types of plantation in the industrial estates.
Block plantation: A parcel of land is used exclusively
for plantation.
Avenue plantation: Plants are grown on either sides of
the road or in the middle of the roads.
As of now about 3,00,000 saplings are planted in all
zones of APIIC. Industries are also encouraged to
develop greenery in their campuses.
Liaison with forest dept., and/or with the social forestry
department of the concerned urban development
authorities for the development of greenery in the
estates.
Maintain and monitor the greenery within the industrial
parks and SEZs.

Emp activities SOLID Waste

Management
Solid waste management is the most challenging
environmental issue found across all the Industrial
Parks and SEZs of APIIC.

To identify the source of the waste.

Implement a proper waste management mechanism

in the Industrial Park with the involvement of APIICIALA and local communities/NGOs,.

To approach APPCB, local Municipal/Gram Panchayat

authorities for support in safe disposal of the waste
from the industries.

Solid waste scenario in the Industrial Parks

Solid waste is classified based on its source of generation as:

1. Industrial Waste The waste that is generated from the industries. Comprises
about 25% of the solid waste generated from the Industrial parks and it constitutes
of metal, burnt plastic, etc.,
2. Hazardous waste - The hazardous waste material generated from the industries,
which need to be sent to TSDF for processing and safe disposal. This constitutes
about 5% of the total waste generated from the Industrial Parks. However this waste
is found only in the Industrial parks which house hazardous waste generating
industries.
3. Municipal Solid waste this is the common house hold waste which includes,
paper, kitchen waste, plastic, cloth and rags, etc and comprises about 75% of the
total waste generated in the Industrial Park.
