Dr. Ramanujan P.

TARKSHYA

R&D PROJECT PROPOSAL

To prepare an authentic content for use on web with retrieval features on the
important but rare areas of traditional knowledge and wisdom contained in the
ancient texts.
To derive the benefits of the treasure of information hidden in the vast
repositories of manuscripts by properly locating, identifying, cataloging,
verifying and transcribing manuscript contents subject-wise.
To train teachers, researchers, and students and lay public on the way to
preserve, study, propagate, and benefit from these invaluable treasures.
To develop the necessary technology, tools and utilities
To enable us to take pride in our historic, mammoth task carried out selflessly
for centuries on medium that would last far longer than the creators, which is
ecologically the soundest alternative, for harmonious co-existence of all living
beings.
Inclusivity is the hallmark of this exercise since all regions, scripts, cultures,
languages, customs, arts, humanities, sciences, skills etc. get represented
fully.

National Academy for Heritage,

Value Education and Training
(NAHVET)
Preamble - Heritage

Value Education
Into 21st century, to achieve national integration, guide humanity, remove
shortcomings of current trends, the deviations, conflicts, strife, dead ends,
aberrations, like intolerance, violence etc,
Many eminent/wise men believe that the situation is alarming; to restore
value system, the Indian heritage is vital
Training

31

India`s most priceless possession is Heritage and it is her gift to mankind, pursuing
any of the four Pururtha (objects of desire), i.e., Dharma (Ethics/Morals),
Artha (prosperity), Kma (worldly desires), or Moka (liberation)
In the present day world, pursuit of material objectives demands so much of energy
and time that no time can be spared for finer aspects of life

Computer-Aided-Instruction (CAI) is a modern field of research into language teaching

packages and databases. There are many advantages in trying to understand and
utilise the common ground with Sanskrit and the regional languages thru' the medium
of Computers. Objectivity, consistency, processability (input, output, storage, retrieval
etc.) are the major advantages besides tremendous speed and memory. It is also a
rewarding experience to try to develop software for creation and maintenance of
various knowledge bases

Training

32

Training on preservation/study/application and critical editions of manuscript

contents including transcription/transliteration and translation would be the
content delivered during the training programs.
Research methodologies using the latest advancements in ICT sector
including distributed collaborative project working covering the national level
research like Computational grids, cloud computing, portal based proejcts
and evolving interoperability standards among various scripts and speech
forms covering the various Indian Languages.
Training is planned for 2 streams. Computer Science at PG level for
development systems, databases, tools and utilities, Vedic and manuscript
domain experts in their subject areas thorough the medium of language labs
employing ICT. Both streams could jointly develop digital contents and build
repositories. The final result expected is upgradation of curricula at
university/college level relevant to national needs.
