This scripture inspired Joseph Smith to pray vocally in a grove


of trees near his home in Palmyra, NY, and led to His vision of the
Father and the Son.

James 1:5

Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon read this scripture which inspired the vision of the
three degrees of glory recorded in
Doctrine and Covenants 76
(See Introduction).

John 5:29

These scriptures in 1 Peter led to President Joseph Fielding Smiths


vision of the spirit world recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 138
(See vs 9-10).

1 Peter 3:18-20 and 1 Peter 4:6

Joseph Smith highlighted this scripture, written by John the


Revelator, to show the importance of recording baptisms for the
dead as recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 128 (See vs. 6).

Revelation 12:20

The Prophet Nephi quoted this Old Testament prophet


extensively in
2nd Nephi.

Enos was doing this all the day long when he


received revelation that his sins were forgiven.

The Lord used this power to open the eyes of Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon so
they could receive the incredible revelation of the three kingdoms (Celestial,
Terrestrial, and Telestial) recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 76 (See vs. 12).

Spirit

President Joseph Fielding Smith was doing these TWO things


when he received the vision about the Spirit World recorded in
Doctrine and Covenants 138 (See vs 1-2).

reflecting upon the Atonement

Reading his scriptures about this Old Testament prophet may have inspired the
Brother of Jared to use clear stones to light the barges as they crossed the ocean to
the promised land.

In 1 Nephi 4: 6, Nephi demonstrated his faith as he went to find the brass plates with

And I was led by the Spirit,

Knowing

This first principle of the Gospel is the confidence and


trust in Jesus Christ that lead a person to obey him.

Faith

If you ask of God with real intent, God will


respond in this manner, meaning plentiful.

Liberally

This word describes the ability or gift from


God to judge correctly.

Wisdom

Without being guided by faith, you become like these liquid


formations that are caused by the friction between wind and a
body of water.

Wave

This word means to find fault with


someone or to scold them.

Upbraid

Literally translated as Lights and Perfections, the Prophet Joseph


Smith used this item to translate The Book of Mormon from gold
plates.

Urim and Thummim

By this feeling, God tried to answer Oliver Cowderys prayer in


D&C 6:22-23.

Peace

We are taught in Doctrine and Covenants 8:2 that the Lord will
answer our faithful prayers in our ________ and in our

Though all can receive personal revelation, this is the only


person who receives revelation for the entire church.

President of the Church

Joseph Smith lost 116 pages of The Book of Mormon when he


conceded to allow this man to borrow them. Joseph was
chastened for this by the Lord in Doctrine and Covenants 3.
