ANGULAR RATE SENSORS

ACCELEROMETERS

Angular Rate Sensors

Definition:
They are the devices that
directly measure angular rate.
For example Gyroscopes , which
are able to measure angular
rotation/rate.

Working Principle
Working Principle:
1.
n number of sensors are used to detect rotation along naxis.
For example - One sensor detects rotation on one axis. If two
axes are to be detected in the same equipment, two different
types of sensors .
2. A high-pass filter is connected to sensor output to eliminate the
DC component, also it helps to reduce the effect of temperature
drift .
3. To suppress the output noise component at around 30-33kHz , a
low pass filter that has a higher cut-off frequency than the
required response frequency is connected to the sensor output.

Technologies Used for Angular Rate

Sensors
Main technologies for rate sensors:
Vibrating structure gyroscopes, including
MEMS gyroscopes
Fiber Optic gyroscope Technology
Electromechanical Technology
MHD sensors, based on the magnetohydrodynamic effect
Electrochemical sensors (based on
molecular electronic transducer (MET)
technology)

There are two types of MET rate

sensors that directly measure
angular rate:
One is able to measure constant
angular rate (DC sensitive) and one
is not.

MET

1) Directly measure
constant angular
rate
2) DC Sensitive
3) Complex Design

1) It consist of a toroid filled with

electrolyte that moves when
the device is rotating about its
measurement axis. The
electrolyte flows through
sensing element and which
helps to detect the angular
motion in the channel
2) Non DC Sensitive
3) Complex Design
4) Output s/g varies directly
angular rate
5) Simple design

CRS03 Angular Rate Sensor

Used in gyroscope for automotive &
commercial customers.
They are used where rate of turn
sensing is needed without a fixed
point of reference
Sensor gives DC voltage as output
varying directly as rate of turn input

2)CRS07 Angular Rate Sensor A robust and

affordable mass-sensor for applications in which
space is critical.
The sensor will output a DC voltage proportional
to the rate of turn and input voltage.
High performance motion sensing even under
severe shock and vibration
