I. The Airplane

Imagine entering the cockpit of a modern jet airplane and


seeing only a single instrument there, let’s say the airspeed
indicator. How would you feel about boarding the plane?

We suspect that you would not board the plane at all! 

Conclusion: No pilot would dream of guiding a complex vehicle


like a jet airplane through crowded air spaces, with only a
single instrument.

Managers, like pilots, need instrumentation about many aspects


of their environment and performance to monitor the journey
toward excellent future outcomes.

II. Balanced Score Card – The
concept

Most scientist say that: “The Balanced Scorecard provides managers


with the instruments they need to navigate to future competitive
success.

More than this, the Balanced Scorecard translates an organization’s


mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance
measures that provides the frame work for a strategic measurement
and management system.

Wikipedia says: The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a


performance management tool for measuring whether the smaller-scale
operational activities of a company are aligned with its larger-
scale objectives in terms of vision and strategy.

II. Balanced Score Card – The
concept
The composing parts of a BSC:

CSF’s a.k.a. Critical Success Factors – is a business Advocate term


for an element which is necessary for an organization or project to
achieve its mission. They are the critical factors or activities required
for ensuring the success of your business.

EX : Financial Sustainability, Managing Talent

KPI’s a.k.a. Key Performance Indicators - are financial and non-


financial measures or metrics used to help an organization define and
evaluate how successful it is, typically in terms of making progress
towards its long-term organizational goals

EX : Failure Rate of students, Collection of bad debts within customer


relationships
PPI’s a.k.a. Process Performance Indicators –These tend to be
at an operational level and reflect either key metrics of a
specific end to end process or at a specific process point
