With Health Care and Social Assistance (strong performer) being identified as a
non-specialized industry, this represents an emerging industry which should be
evaluated closely with specialized industries. There are over seven industries
(lagging performers) identified with prospects limited due to a weak base and a
declining competitiveness including Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade,
Transportation and Warehousing, etc. For the non-specialization (Agriculture,
Forestry, Fishing and Hunting), this constrained performer is an industry that is
declining locally but not so rapidly as elsewhere whereas local strength is
bolstered and given little attention due to its decrease. One industry (Mining,
Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction), was a poor performer due to the overall
limitation and appeared to offer little leverage for stimulating economic growth.
