Library Lovers Lunch Bunch
Description

The Library Lovers Lunch Bunch (LLLB) is a stimulating program designed with busy high school
students in mind. The LLLB invites students by grade level a couple of times each month to bring
their lunch (Ill provide dessert!) to the library and spend time with fellow classmates participating in
a variety of short, high-interest activities. Students will engage in choosing books for a group or
individual reading, participating in and leading discussions, creating Book Trailers and Booktalks to
share with the group, and many other fun and engaging activities.

Goal and Objectives

The goal of LLLB is to encourage students to use the library with all of its resources, build
camaraderie with fellow classmates, form research skills, and elevate the achievement of each
participant to his or her highest potential.

Engage students in research oriented games and treasure hunts using electronic reference
sources.
Share theme-related booktalks and book trailers and give students time to choose a pleasure
reading title.
Provide necessary tools for students to plan, create and share their own book trailers.
Make electronic games available that teach library skills like the Dewey Decimal System and
shelving books.

Who

All students are invited. Dates and times will be set up by grade level. Each grade level will have
two dates per month to attend LLLB.

Tools

Flyers-posted on bulletin boards and locations throughout the school and offered to students by
teachers.
Recorded message invitation and reminders sent out through the schools contact service.
Posters-posted near library entrance/exit and on bulletin boards.

Evaluation

Evaluation of the program can be done on an on-going basis throughout the school year. Short
surveys given to attending students (optional) will ask questions to find out if the students are
learning new skills, meeting new people (if that is their goal), enjoying their time in the library,
attending the library more frequently as a result of attending the LLLB, etc.
At the end of each semester, a short questionnaire could go out to teachers to see if they are
noticing if any of their students are attending the LLLB, if they are hearing any buzz about it, if
their students are sharing any of their LLLB projects, or participating more in their classes, possibly
as a result of attending the LLLB.
Finally, a journal can be kept with a section for each grade level to record the number of
students attending, the participation level, successes and failures, conversations about topics, and
many other aspects of the meetings. Over time, a journal can give an overall evaluation of mood,
scope of meetings, lessons learned, areas that need improvement and progress made.
