QUALITY OF LIFE

Quality of Life
Quality of life (QOL) is the general well-
being of individuals and societies, outlining
negative and positive features of life

QoL is represented by eight indicators that


provide a signal of a persons quality of life
in three main areas
1) Independence
2) Social participation
3) Well-being
Quality of Life
The eight indicators are:
1) Emotional well-being contentment, self-concept, lack of stress

2) Interpersonal relations interactions, relationships, supports

3) Material well-being financial status, employment, housing

4) Personal development education, personal competence, performance

5) Physical well-being health and health care, activities of daily living

6) Self-determination autonomy / personal control, personal goals,


choices

7) Social inclusion community integration and participation, roles,


supports

8) Rights legal, human (respect, dignity, equality)

Contentment
- a state of happiness and satisfaction
- pleasure, cheerfulness, inner peace
Self-Concept
collection of beliefs about oneself that includes
things like school grades, sexuality, racial
identity, gender roles
Ex: I am a fast runner, I am English, I am a Doctor
Interpersonal
Relationships
A strong, deep, or close association
or acquaintance between two or
more people
May be short, or a long-lasting
relationship
Material Well-Being
Measured through income,
consumption patterns or
assets/wealth
Income (Money you make)
Consumption (What you use/eat/etc)
Assests (What you own)
Home-owner
Livestock
Household items
Land
Personal Development
A lifelong process
It's a way for people to:
assess their skills and qualities
consider their aims in life and,
set goals in order to realize and
maximize their potential
Physical Well-Being
A state of physical well-being is not
just theabsence of disease
It includes lifestyle behaviour choices
toensure health, avoid preventable
diseases and conditions, and,
To live in a balanced state ofbody,
mind, and spirit
Self-Determination
How motivated you are
How well are you able to behave in
effective and healthy ways
Social Inclusion
Your sense of belonging, acceptance
and recognition
Do you feel that you have equal
participation in economic, social,
cultural and political institutions
Rights
A moral or legal entitlement to have
or obtain something or to act in a
certain way
