Introduction

French scientist named Nye DE Winters found that inclusion of a thin film of a
three nitrocellulose fat prevents glass from splattering.
Currently three main forms of commercially-produced bulletproof glass:
Acrylic
Polycarbonate
Glass-clad polycarbonate.
US Navy researchers:
manufacturing a transparent, bulletproof material called Spinel(magnesium aluminate).
Heating a synthetic powdered clay and pressing it under vacuum into transparent sheets

These results compared with numerical simulations made using a
physically based model of the behaviour of brittle materials under
shock loading.

Novelty of the work

Till date experimental study

Involved intensive human effort, material, and experimental facilities
Increases the cost of development of any type of bullet proof glass.
We thus aim to do a simulation of the tests which would not only reduce the
cost of prototyping and testing but also reduce drastically the time taken for
development of new products.
We also plan to do a study on the machinability of the composite which is
untouched upon till date as mostly the bullet proof glass is made as per
requirement of shapes and sizes by moulding

Objectives

1. To perform static and dynamic structural simulation of bullet proof glass.

2. To perform thermal analysis of bullet proof glass for resistance to high
temperature.
3. Study of machinability of the composite material.
