Non-Health Buildings

Electrical Systems- Applicable Codes and

Standards

The Client has requested that codes and standards for KKMC be those which would be
applicable if this project were to be constructed in the United States.

Compliance with local authorities codes and standards is also of great importance and Saudi
Building Codes are listed accordingly.

NFPA 110; Standard for Emergency

and Standby

General

All general purpose convenience outlets, duplex or single will be rated 13 Amp, 3 pin 230 volts switched
type.

Final circuit wiring for socket outlets will be ring connected.

Each ring having a cross-sectional area of 4mm 2 and protected by 30mA sensitivity residual current
circuit breakers.

Tower Housing Apartments and Villas

General purpose power outlets will be distributed throughout the Apartments and Villas using 13A
switched socket outlets.

The power outlets for Apartments and Villas will finally be based on the furniture layout and Interior
Design drawings.

The power outlet provision for each apartment and villa type will be detailed in the forthcoming
presentations.

Page 32
Non Healthcare Buildings Uninterruptible Power Supplies

UPS for the Non Healthcare Buildings will be designed to provide power to the critical
telecommunications equipment such as the following.

tTlecommunications servers and other active equipment

Security and CCTV systems

The UPS power will be distributed to the Floor TR (Telecommunication rooms) from the central UPS
room located on Ground Floor/Basement of the individual building and located on each floor level to
provide IT wiring to all spaces.

TRs will contain server racks which

will be served with the UPS back-up power.

Page 34
Non Healthcare Buildings Emergency Lighting

Emergency lighting system shall be designed to NFPA 101

Provides a safe passage in all areas in the event of a mains failure.

Emergency lighting shall fulfil the following functions:

Illuminate the escape routes.

Indicate the escape route direction clearly

Provide EXIT signs on escape doors and routes to such doors.

Illuminate
fire alarm call points,
fire fighting equipment
other life saving equipment on the premises.

Page 35
Non Healthcare Buildings Lighting Controls

Lighting circuits will be controlled by combination of automatic and manual

lighting control systems to facilitate energy efficient control

Individual switches for the rooms in the Apartments.

Back of the House lighting circuits (BOH) (corridors, lift lobbies etc) on each
level shall be controlled based on timer programs or occupancy sensors.

Car park lighting circuits on each level shall be controlled based on timer
programs. Daylight control to luminaires at edge of parking floors.

External Lighting circuits shall be photo-cell On/Off. Manual override shall be

possible from the PC at the security base.

Finishes:

It is advisable that areas such as lobbies, internal loading areas, car parks etc have
ceiling and wall areas treated to ensure that the affectivity of the lighting applied is fully
utilised.

MSCP car parks have the non road surface areas painted in white or near white to
ensure that the areas present very low light absorption properties.
