Aim

The Objectives is to design and fabricate an

automatic irrigation system by sensing the soil
moisture

Accordingly, turn ON/OFF the supply of required

water to the farm without any human intervention,
thereby saving time and power for the farmer.
Motivation And Problem Statement
The water harvesting is the backbone of farming industry.
In India a lot of water is getting wasted, due to the improper
maintenance and wrong water harvesting plan.
Day by day the rain percentage is also becoming less and so a very
small amount of water is available for the farming.
Most of water also get wasted due to lack of proper attention by
farmer.
Watering is the most important cultural practice and most labor
intensive task .
Watering systems ease the burden of getting water to plants when
they need it. Knowing when and how much to water is needed to
PROBLEMS

Over Irrigation.
Under Irrigation
Farm Lands & Fields situated miles away from your
home.
Extensive travel required, sometimes several times in
a day to start & stop the irrigation water pumps.
Land is more, we need more manpower.
So we are presenting a smart provision to deal with this problem
that is nothing but Automatic Irrigation Control System. we are
using the ground water sensor and accordingly control the motor.
This is the very cost efficient unit as the cost of sensor is very
economical.
A GSM module is added for sending SMS to the concerned person
in case of any problem or for updating the status of the work.
The heart of the system is the microcontroller in the Arduino
board. A simple assembly language program can perform all
required operation.

Working Explanation

Working of this Automatic Plant Irrigation System is quite simple.

Completely Automated System
no need of manpower to control the system.
Arduino is used for controlling the whole process and GSM module is used
for sending alert messages to user on his Cell phone.
Working Explanation

If moisture is present in soil then there is conduction between the two

probes of Soil Moisture sensor and due to this conduction, transistor Q2
remains in triggered/on state and Arduino Pin D7 remains Low. When
Arduino reads LOW signal at D7, then it sends SMS to user about Soil
Moisture is Normal. Motor turned OFF and water pump remains in Off
state.
Working Explanation

Now if there is no Moisture in soil then Transistor Q2 becomes Off and Pin
D7 becomes High. Then Arduino reads the Pin D7 and turns On the water
motor and also sends message to user about Low Soil Moisture detected.
Motor turned ON. Motor will automatically turn off when there is sufficient
moisture in the soil..
Future tasks(EXTENTIONS )

The working of above project is basically dependent on the output of the humidity
sensors. Whenever there is need of excess water in the desired field(RICE crops)
then it will not be possible by using sensor technology. For this we will have to
adopt the DTMF technology. By using this we will be able to irrigate the desired
field & in desired amount.
This technology will be implemented in this project in the next (8th ) semester . this
will be our extention to the project for the the next semester.
CONCLUSION
In present days especially farmers are facing major problems in watering their agriculture
fields, its because they have no proper idea about when the power is available so that they
can pump water.
Even after then they need to wait until the field is properly watered, which makes them to
stop doing other activities.
Here is an idea which helps not only farmers even for watering the gardens also, which
senses the soil moisture and switches the pump automatically when the power is ON.
