Word Origin and History for Mall
1737, "shaded walk serving as a promenade,"
generalized from The Mall, name of a broad, tree-
lined promenade in St. James's Park, London (so
called from 1670s, earlier Maill, 1640s), which was so
called because it formerly was an open alley that
was used to play pall-mall, a croquet-like game
involving hitting a ball with a mallet through a ring,
from French pallemaille, from Italian pallamaglio,
from palla "ball" (see balloon ) +maglio "mallet" (see
mallet ). Modern sense of "enclosed shopping
gallery"is from 1963. Mall rat is from 1985.

across Waterloo Place to the Haymarket; while Pall Mall East continues into Trafalgar Square.

Pall Mall was laid out in its present
location in 1661, replacing a much
older highway slightly to the south
that ran from Charing Crossto St
James's Palace (then the residence
of the King of England).
Pall Mall is best known for being the
home of various gentlemen's clubs
built in the 19th and early 20th
centuries. These include

The Mall in Lahore, Pakistan, is one of Lahore's primary and most famous road.
About
It was constructed under the British
Raj and was nostalgically named
after The Mall in London.
The Mall holds significant historical
and cultural value, as most of the
buildings lining the road are a
collection of Mughal and colonial-
era architecture, the majority of
them built during the British Rajera.
[2] This area has many official
houses of high ranking dignitaries
e.g Governor House, Qurban lines
etc.
