Q NO 1 PART A Draw Carnot Cycle on P-V and T-S

diagram.

1
Q No 1 part b Why is Carnot cycle not practically in use?
Explain your answer for vapor as working fluid

Problems/Shortcomings for vapor

as W.F

2
Q No 1 part b Why is Carnot cycle not practically in use? Explain your answer for gas as working fluid

3
Q No 1 Part C. the numerical
Go to steam tables
@ P1 = 40 bars = 4000 kPa the T1 = 75.87 oC

@ P2 = 0.035 bars = 3.5 kPa the T2 = 26.52

oC

And then use this formula

As Carnot cycle always have highest thermal
efficiency for any given temperatures so you
can not do any modification to increase its
thermal efficiency further.

Q No 2 Part a
Ideal Brayton/Joule cycle

Isentropic Process- ambient air is drawn into the

compressor, where it is pressurized.
Isobaric Process- the compressed air then runs
through a combustion chamber, where fuel is burned,
heating that aira constant-pressure process, since
the chamber is open to flow in and out.
Isentropic Process - the heated, pressurized air then
gives up its energy, expanding through a turbine (or
series of turbines). Some of the work extracted by the
turbine is used to drive the compressor.
Isobaric Process - heat rejection (in the atmosphere).

Q No 3 Part a: For other properties fixed in a
Rankine cycle raising the condenser
temperature causes changes in which work
?and heat transfer terms

9
Q No 3 Part b: Consider a Rankine cycle without
superheat. How many single properties are needed
to determine the cycle? Repeat the answer for a
cycle with superheat.

Here are a few steps

missing. Where you
have to find dryness
fraction at 6 afterwards
the enthalpy at 6 is
calculated.
