Movie Posters

Mindi Roscoe
The Centre of the poster has the title in
gold with a backdrop of the mirror which
reflects the central focus of the title
looking glass- the golden rule forces the
eyes to look around the chaotic scene.
There is no tagline as this is an
established film and story.
The image and the typography all relate to
the odd and busy world of wonderland.
Typography- serif font, gold with distorted
accents to portray the relative context of
the time period in which this is set. Alice
and Looking Glass are bigger and thus
has more emphasis as these are the
current focus of the film.
The colours are bright mainly made up of
gold and brown to match the golden mirror
and the cogs of the watches, which leads
us to believe that the target audience is of
a younger age.
Typography San Serif font of the title
is futuristic, with a clean metal finish
and shine which ties in nicely with the
choice of images and genre of the film.
There is no tagline however this is a
well established franchise with well
know actors.
The arrangement of the actors in the
poster adhere to the golden rule, as
there are two actors to the side off
Centre and the main characters are
brought into the forefront by
enlargement of their pictures. The main
terminator on the right side is
highlighted as a non-human due to his
scared face revealing robotic
mechanics underneath, as well as the
red light that centralises his face,
working as an eye.
The use of the brightly burning fire
through the middle draws the attention
to the middle of the poster, highlighting
where the terminator is standing over
the city below, to convey a sense of
danger and action. This clearly
Typography is subtle serif which indicates
the genre of horror/ thriller.
The simplicity of the blue rose as the main
focus on a black background, which
contrasts the droplet of red to make the red
even more prominent despite being near the
bottom of the poster. Adhering to the
golden as it forces the eye to look around.
The image itself is of a rose with faces of a
girl either side blending into the rose,
suggesting innocence with the title I know
who killed me indicates the girls
vulnerability which conforms to conventions
of innocent girls being a victim.
Colour scheme- We have the conventions of
horror, red, black and white but we have the
modern twist with the prominent blue of the
rose, which brings the rose as the centre of
focus to contrast the black.
The traditional serif is used to convey the
genre of horror, as well as the metallic
elements of the title to portray the razor
which is a main feature to the film itself,
and the splatter of blood going across the
middle.
The E, N and Y are all seemingly smudged
or broken which represents the broken
flesh of Sweeny Todds victims.
The colour scheme is red, black and
white, with red being very prominent in
the poster.
The chair that Johnny Depp sits in is
further up from the centre of the poster
leaving a small space for the tagline in
the lower centre Never Forgive Never
Forget just above the faint red light
coming from the floorboards to reflect the
sinister happenings of this film.
By naming a famous actor just above the
title ignites interest to increase the hype
around the films release.
The chair itself is red which stands out in
the centre of and emphasises the dangers
of sitting in Sweeney Todds chair.
The typography, image and colour scheme
all co-ordinate with each other to evoke fear
and a feeling of uneasiness.
The serif, white font is bold enough to be
contrasted from the grey of the fog image
behind it.
The use of the face made up of nothing but
fog is designed to make use feel
uncomfortable, as the face resembles that
of a scream and the blackness of the eyes
suggest a dark and deathlike figure in the
fog.
The colour scheme uses monochrome
colours of black, white and greys which is
common for the horror genre but this serves
the purpose of conveying the the eerie and
barely visual atmosphere of a fog.
The image itself takes up the whole poster
much like the envelopment of normal fog
adding to the eerie, uncomfortable feeling
of the image used.
