THE HISTORY OF
BIDAYUH
Like iban, Bidayuh is also classified
as the Dayak people. They were the
second biggest ethnic group in The
Land of Hornbill after Iban. The word
Bidayuh actually was came from
Dayak Language that bought
meaning of inhabitants of land.
THE BIDAYUHS ARE DIVIDED INTO FOUR
MAIN DIFFERENT ETHNIC DIALECT GROUPS:
i) Bukar/Sadong dialect (Serian district)
ii) Biatah dialect ( Kuching district )
iii) Singai /Lagoi dialect ( Bau district)
iv) Selakau and Lara dialects ( Lundu district )
THE CULTURE &LIFESTYLE
For the traditional Bidayuh community, they were mostly lived in the
villages or kupuo. The kupuo consisted largely of longhouses built on
patches of flat land or gentle slopes.
BIDAYUH CELEBRATE

Just like other Dayak community such as Iban, Bidayuh people also
celebrated Gawai Dayak, which is also Dayak Festival that held 1 June every
year. It is a festival which mark the end of the paddy harvesting season and
the beginning of the new planting season.

HERITAGE
Pesa (Sword Dance)

Here are some of the Bidayuh dance that commonly seen by


the people today. This type of dance is held when they
celebrated great occasions, especially during Gawai festival.
TOTOKNG (WARRIOR DANCE)
Totokng is dance performed to welcome the returning warriors from
a headhunting expedition and to receive the newly acquired heads
to the longhouse
