History
Poland, Ohio was founded on July 23rd, 1796
Poland was one of the first areas of land to be charted in the Western
Reserve Area
The township was founded by Jonathan Fowler,
Fell in love with Yellow Creek, which flows through Poland
Fowler owned an inn near the river which still stands as the oldest building in
Poland
The name of Poland originated from a Polish Hero of the Revolutionary War
who was well known and considered a hero to the community
Poland originally had a larger population than Youngstown
Poland was known for it's good supply of coal, limestone, and fertile
soil
The coal and limestone are still being mined today.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the population of
Poland Ohio is 5,520 (2012)
Poland has shrunk 10.85% since 2000.

o The mission of the Poland/Western Reserve Joint Fire
District is to save lives, reduce injuries and economic loss, and
to preserve the safety and well-being of all District residents
with the most cost effective and service oriented methods
available.
o Currently there are 5 engines, 1 75ft ladder truck, 1
Tanker, 3 Squads, 2 Command Vehicles, and 1 Brush Unit. The
Poland Fire District relies solely on volunteers for medical and
fire response and employs 80 Volunteer Firefighter/EMT.

includes 2 heart monitors, Jaws of Life, Thermal imaging
cameras, and are equipped for Ice rescue/Swift water rescue/

o A bicycle patrol was established and has done very well in getting
acquainted with the residents on a more personal level. When officers are in

well as how to feel good about yourself thus keeping drug free and out of
trouble.

Senior citizens will decide on a day and time that they will call in or check in with the Police
Department. If a call is missed, then an officer will call hem or stop over to see if everything is
okay.

On designated days, and times the police department will call the clients home to check on
their welfare.

the Mahoning County dispatcher. They will automatically dispatch a

is directly transferred to the Rural Metro services when fire and EMS will

Government Structure
Consists of three Trustees and a Township Clerk. They
are elected to a four-year term. The terms are staggered
so that each year only two officials are up for election.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall
governing of the Township. They decide Township policy
