PHILCOA: WHY, WHAT, HOW?

We selected the site, Philcoa, for our topic, Healthy Cities, because
the existing issues in the site will be a good avenue to discuss more
about our topic. Philcoa is a site which has social, environmental and
physical issues. Included in these categories are the issues of
walkability, connectivity, safety and security, pollution, improper
sanitation and maintenance and the site not being pedestrian
friendly. With our topic, we aim to give a solution through a
collaboration of architecture and landscape architecture approaches.
PHILCOA: HISTORY

The Philcoa area is so named because of the Philippine Coconut Authority


building erected in 1971 at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and the
Elliptical to develop the industry to its full potential.
The Philcoa building was a prominent structure built in that part of
Quezon City, eventually becoming the areas namesake where until now
the jeep and bus stations on both sides of the Elliptical Road corner
Commonwealth are known as.
OBJECTIVES

To evaluate and analyze the issues of the site in relation to the topic, healthy
cities
To create a pedestrian-friendly design of the site
To improve walkability, connectivity and sustainability of the site
To collaborate architecture and landscape architecture approaches to give a
solution to the existing issues in the site, and furthermore, make the site a
healthy city
