Questions
1. If Nuclear power cost effective when compared to coal, gas, oil and wind
energy in the short term and long term? If so why ?
2. Is Nuclear Power safe compared to other forms of energy in the world and
is it cost effective compared to other forms of power ?
3. What are the major Nuclear Power Plant Accidents ?
4. Did Fukushima kill hopes of a nuclear renaissance ?
5.Why Nuclear power is dangerous ?
Research Process

Throughout this semester I have learned several things from this class that I can
and will use in the future. The first thing I learned was how to conduct research
in such a way that it generates results that I am looking for without a ton of
extra nonsense. Then I learned how to structure research in a way that allows
me to easily organize my thoughts and then place them into a paper. Finally I
learned how to write a great paper that takes information from several
difference sources and allow one to read it and actually come away with some
new knowledge. These are the things I have learned in this class this semester.

So about finding the sources it was not really hard for me because internet and
google sources helped me a lot. Being honestly the difficulties about this
research paper project that was a finding print sources because I spend my lots
of time in library to find the books, newspaper and quotes.

As a Nuclear Power - as the only nuclear Power to have used a Nuclear Weapon-the United States
has a moral responsibility to act .

Between 2002 and 2008, for example, cost estimates for new nuclear plant construction rose from
between $2 billion and $4 billion per unit to $9 billion per unit, according to a 2009 UCS report, while
experience with new construction in Europe has seen costs continue to soar.

Summary
Is Nuclear Power cost effective? Yes.The cost for nuclear fuel is relative stable and runs around $5 for
every kilowatt of power produced.Coal, at its cheapest, is about the same but typically runs about
the same but typically runs about $2/kw.With more and more states banning or strictly controlling
coal mining, that cost will probably go up.The recent mining accident will probably drive the cost of
coal up.Natural gas and oil have typically been $4 to $6 per kw, but a recent discovery of gas
deposits in the Midwest has driven gas prices down.Unfortunately, this still fluctuates greatly as
OPEC restricts their safe of natural gas and oil to artificially maintain prices high.

Quotes : A Nuclear Power plant is infinitely safer than eating, because 300 people
choke to death on food every year.

We should remember that there are nations which meet more than 30 to 60% of their
powers requirements through the nuclear power system.

Summary

China, India, the United States, and the several Middle Eastern countries paused their new programs
for a safety review after Fukushima, but all have gone forward with planned Nuclear plant construction.
Even Japan, which shut down all of its 54 nuclear power plants immediately after the earthquake, has
begun to restart its reactor.

Germany did accelerate its Nuclear phase out after Fukushima, but this had been under way since
2000.Not a single country cancelled a new nuclear power plant in response to Fukushima. Several
countries, like the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Jordan, are currently moving forward with plans to
build their first commercial Nuclear Power plants.

Quotes:
Renewable energy also creates more jobs than other sources of energy-most of these
will be created in the struggling manufacturing sector, which will pioneer the new
energy future by the investment that allows manufacturers to retool and adopt new
technologies and methods.
Reality, studies show that investments to spur renewable energy and boost energy
efficiency generate far more jobs than oil and coal.

Summary
Increasing renewable energy has the potential to create still more jobs.In 2009,the
Union of Concerned Scientists conducted any analysis of the economic benifits of a 25
percent renewable energy standard by 2025: it found that such a policy would create
more than three times as many jobs as producing an equivalent amount of electricity
from fossil fuel-resulting in a benifit of 202.000 new jobs in 2025

Thesis Statement

In the United States, around 85% of energy consumption depends on fossil fuels
coal, oil, petroleum, and natural gas. However, scientists and researchers say
that around 50 years from now, the world is going to start running out of fossil
fuels. Our only hope is to turn our attention to harnessing renewable energy
sources.

Nuclear power is the use of sustained nuclear fission to generate heat and
electricity. Nuclear power plants provide about 6% of the world's energy and 13
14% of the world's electricity, with the U.S., France, and Japan together
accounting for about 50% of nuclear generated electricity. In 2007, the IAEA
(International Atomic Energy Agency) reported there were 439 nuclear power
reactors in operation in the world, operating in 31 countries. Also, more than
150 naval vessels using nuclear propulsion have been built.
