Public Law 94-142 guaranteed a free appropriate public education


to each child with a disability

Four Purposes of P.L. 94-142


to assure that all children with disabilities have available to them
a free appropriate public education which emphasizes special
education and related services designed to meet their unique
needs
to assure that the rights of children with disabilities and their
parents are protected
to assist States and localities to provide for the education of all
children with disabilities
to assess and assure the effectiveness of efforts to educate all
children with disabilities

IDEA Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act

The IDEA was created with a vision for comprehensive, interagency, multidisciplinary,
family-centered, and community-based services accessible to all infants and toddlers
with disabilities and to many who are at risk for disabilities. This law has been
reauthorized as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004
(IDEA)
IEP Individualized Education
Program

An IEP is an individualized educational program. It is a plan specifying goals,


services provided, and assessment to students with Disabilities.
John F Miller

John F. Miller School is a special education school that serves significantly disabled
and medically fragile students.
The school motto is: All Children Can Learn.
Students at John F. Miller range in age from 3-21 years.
Helen J. Stewart School

Helen J. Stewart is a special education school that serves students with intellectual
disabilities
ages from 6-22 years old
Miley Achievement Center

For students who are affected by emotional and or behavioral disorders.


Ages 3-21
Variety

Students participate in a full academic and vocational program which includes a


motivational behavioral management system.
Ages 6-21
Home Bound

instruction to general and special education students who are ill or injured and unable
to attend school. Services are provided for a minimum of 15 consecutive school days
as determined by a qualified physician

Least restrictive environment-


means that a student who has a
disability should have the
opportunity to be educated with non-
disabled peers, to the greatest
extent appropriate.
