Occupancy refers to the volume required per unit mass of product in each plant item or stage of processing. Vessel size is calculated by multiplying the occupancy by the batch size.
Initial assumptions made for a multiproduct plant include assuming equal batch sizes for all products, determining the number of campaigns needed based on total processing time available, and then recalculating the actual batch sizes needed to meet annual production requirements for each product based on the number of campaigns. The largest vessel size needed at each stage is then selected to accommodate all products.
